MTV Asia Awards (MAA) 2008 is coming to Malaysia.
MAA, one of the most popular pop events in Asia, is making its debut in Malaysia. The show will be held at the Arena of Stars in Genting City of Entertainment, Malaysia, on August 2, and will be hosted by Jared Leto of 30 Seconds to Mars.
There will be nine regional favourite artist awards and seven international awards to be presented. Among the nominees are Avril Lavigne & Justin Timberlake & Leona Lewis (International), Chris Li (China), Andy Lau & Eason Chan & Joey Yung (Hong Kong), Big Bang & Suju & Wondergirls (Korea), Nic Teo & Siti Nurhaliza (Malaysia), Stefanie Sun (Singapore), Jolin Tsai & S.H.E (Taiwan) etc.
As far as I know, none of the celebrities have confirmed their attendance yet, but judging from the past experiences, most of the winners were pretty supportive of the show… it’s one of the largest of its kind in Asia after all.
It’s not easy to get a ticket though; it’s something that money can’t buy. The fans have to get the tickets via contests by voting for their favourite artists [details]… the fans need some luck obviously.
Karen Mok is going to co-host the event with Jared Leto. Electrico, Jabbawockeez, Leona Lewis, Li Yuchun, OneRepublic, Panic at the Disco, Pussycat Dolls, Super Junior, Stefanie Sun, The Click Five and The Script have confirmed their appearances.

i’ll just wait this to premier on mtv channel…i hope this will be aired live…i remember before this used to be like every Feb or March..am i right? why did they change the month?
Can’t remember the dates, but as far as I can remember… it has always been aired live on MTV Asia.
btw, somebody can tell me how to get the ticket to watch the show live?

its a good show, i remember avril lavign and boa at the show last time when they were young, hope to see them again this year!
Yupe, Avril was at the show years ago… her debut year if not mistaken. BoA’s appearance was much more recently, just two years ago I think.

lilly… I am not sure about US. If it’s MTV Asia channel, it’s probably going to air it live, but for other MTV channels, I don’t know. I guess there will at least make a highlight version and air it later to non-Asian based viewers.

blackdragon… as far as I know, it will only be broadcasted on MTV channels. Other channels might show it later if they decided to buy the show, but heard nothing yet.

i was told the show starts 7pm. it will be taped, edited and transmitted live over start at 11pm Malaysian time. which channel? MTV, must be. which country,check respective MTV ’s country office.
I saw the Astro Stat. Transmitter station outside the Theme Park entrance.

on my way some one just offer me a RM100 x 2 tickets and she had arranged her friend to EXPRESS -delivery to two old men, patiently waiting till 7.10pm. We missed the crazy opening….
mind you the package to bring MTV to Genting was USD 2mil…so if you divide 6000 seats/tickets, each tickets worth minimum 1000 RM.
But MTV only give 600 Free tickets to Genting, that work out to be 10,000 RM per tickets…But the world promoting of GENTING worth more than USD 2 mil.
Those stars perform live is worth more than What i paid for , indeed a enjoyable evening, Hot and Hard rocking with young fellows…
One of local hard rock band was a family member’s friend. 1buckshort , a short performance was rewarded 10K??? local band…imagine foreign singers….No one know how much MTV sold the 2. 1/2 hours show to all TV stations?… hundred millions USD world wide ?
The most important thing at the end of the day is that most people are happy attending the event.

I suspect many ticket holders given free were not attended. leaving G Gate seats-corne emptied.
Well, it’s up to the parents to grant their kids’ wishes or not… but to be frank, chances like this doesn’t happen often… if I am a parent I would probably spoiled the kids this round.
About the empty seats… it doesn’t surprised me. I have seen quite a number of people trying to sell their tickets in forums and other blogs (a few here in fact)… pretty obvious some of the ticket holders had not much intention to attend the concert.
Besides, I wondered how those from overseas were supposed to attend the show even if they got the ticket for free… the flight would certainly be much more expensive then getting the tickets; most of them probably chose to forfeit the chance, albeit painfully.
