Japanese leading entertainment agency Avex, which boost the likes of Ayumi Hamasaki, Koda Kumi, Amuro Namie and Ai Otsuka etc… is holding AWA 2008, its first ever worldwide audition in celebration with the company’s 20th anniversary.

From what I understand, Avex is looking for young talents (age 7-24) in singing, acting, dancing and modelling… nationality and races are not relevant, but the applicants must be able to communicate in Japanese.

It’s walk-in audition for people living in Japan; J-ent mentioned that auditions will be held across the world including USAbut I can’t seem to find the information on the official website.

Update - for US auditions (website)

San Francisco, CA - October 25th and 26th
Los Angeles, CA - November 8th and 9th
New York, NY - November 15th and 16th

Unless there’s further announcement from Avex, (other) international applicants have to send in applications by mail or via the web. Deadline is November 28, 2008.

Check AWA’s offical English website for details and updates.

looks like all the big companies are doing auditions this year, but avex is huge…. maybe bigger than sm entertainment and jyp entertainment add together right?

Avex could be selling more albums than the whole Korean market combined… sounds a bit exaggerating, but it’s actually possible. Ya it’s huge… and it probably means it would be harder to get into Avex than to SM or JYP etc.

this does sound very appealing to people wanting to become a star.
but i wonder how much non-japanese talents in the world can communicate in japanese well.

Not much perhaps… Japan got enough pool of talent to begin with. No harm trying to look for oversea talents though… it’s cheap promotion and branding for the company anyway.
