Canadian pop-rocker Avril Lavigne is coming to Kuala Lumpur for a live concert on August 29 at Merdeka Stadium as part of her Best Damn Tour.

I used to like Avril a lot; if she was to have a concert here a couple of years ago I won’t hesitate to get a VIP ticket for the show… but now, I am not sure. Hmmm got to think fast, considering her popularity here (and some neighbouring countries), the nice seats could be sold out pretty soon.

Avril’s world tour will kick start on August 1 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; the KL concert will be first stop in Asia. Other Asian countries that are part of the tour include Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan, Japan and China. [Check schedule]

There are 11 concerts in Japan, more than USA and Canada combined (10)… never knew that she is that popular in Japan.

Update - the KL concert is NOT cancelled… enjoy the show.

Always wonder do minors are allowed to enter concert?
    Coz I’m still underage…xD

  2. Yein Jee on July 31st, 2008 at 10:48pm

Actually, lots of the concerts have age restrictions, but not really enforced. Unless you look like a kid and only 130cm tall… you should be ok in most cases.

  3. kyon on July 31st, 2008 at 11:17pm

hopes malaysia doesn’t ban this one haha :p

  4. kyon on July 31st, 2008 at 11:19pm

a@ron, i remember my first concert was in 13 or 14 years old. if there is age restrictions it is not too strict.. unless you are under 12 maybe different story.

  5. Yein Jee on August 1st, 2008 at 11:37am

They have no good reasons to ban this. To be frank, our authorities might be too strict, but not really unreasonable.

  6. bb on August 1st, 2008 at 1:05pm

avril doesn’t look like this anymore, right?
why do they always use old picture of celebs? lol.

  7. bb on August 1st, 2008 at 1:08pm

and wow, she does have a lot of concerts is japan, which is such a small country compared to the states and canada.
i think she’s also pretty popular in hk and taiwan too.
but i think her popualrity had dropped over the years.

  8. Yein Jee on August 1st, 2008 at 4:25pm

Is the picture that old? I thought it was from her previous album.

  9. a@ron on August 1st, 2008 at 7:33pm

But that is the day before my exam, too bad I can’t attend.

  10. Yein Jee on August 2nd, 2008 at 2:01am

aaron… the concert is on Friday; you can’t be having school on Saturday right?

Besides, exams happen all the time, but Avril’s concert only once in a few years (perhaps once in a lifetime) in Malaysia. If you are a big fan of Avril, just go for the concert… lol, your parents are going to hate me if they read this.

she’s really popular in Asia…even before when i was still in highschool (4 yrs ago)…my schoolmates used to copy her fashion stlye…but now she’s more of a girly chic than a punker…do you think she’ll have the same type of songs when she gets preggie??haha…

  12. Yein Jee on August 2nd, 2008 at 12:01pm

Well, can’t tell what music she will be making in future. She is trying to go into acting now… who knows, maybe she will become a great actress and abandon her music career?

  13. cole on August 2nd, 2008 at 1:38pm

I just can’t get into Avril. She’s pretty alright but she just comes off as such a ’snot’…. jmo.

  16. zq girl on August 7th, 2008 at 6:19pm

hw much is the most expensive ticket ( vip )?

  17. Yein Jee on August 7th, 2008 at 6:31pm

As far as I know VIP tickets are not for sale, or that it has been sold out. The next most expensive ticket is RM338, which is probably a few rolls away from the stage with the VIPs in between.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — Malaysia’s Islamic opposition party has urged the government to cancel a concert by Avril Lavigne, saying the Canadian singer’s on-stage moves are “too sexy,” an official said Monday.

The youth wing of the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party said Lavigne’s concert would promote wrong values ahead of Malaysia’s Aug. 31 independence day.

“It is considered too sexy for us. … It’s not good for viewers in Malaysia,” said Kamarulzaman Mohamed, a party official. “We don’t want our people, our teenagers, influenced by their performance. We want clean artists, artists that are good role models.”

Kamarulzaman said he sent a protest letter to the Culture, Arts and Heritage Ministry and the Kuala Lumpur mayor last week, calling for the concert to be canceled.

An official from the Culture Ministry’s department that vets all foreign artists said the government has not given permission for the concert yet. The department is to meet Tuesday to decide on the organizer’s application, which was received last week.

  26. cole on August 19th, 2008 at 1:21am

I won’t express a definte opinion about the effects of entertainers on youth except to say that westerners have their way of doing things and easterners have theirs. I figure Malaysia is entitled to decide their own affairs among themselves in these sorts of matters.

Some say yes, entertainers like Avril, Madonna, Britney and others send the wrong message to young viewers and that’s what’s wrong with the sexual morality in places like America these days. Others say freedom of expression and speech should not be hindered as long as there’s no violence incurred and people hurt, and that people should decide for themselves what they watch as well as parents should monitor their kids viewing (easier said than done on that one, lol). Then again, sometimes people are not aware of how things can actually affect them even when they think they are in control of their minds. That is just a fact.

Ofcourse, trying to control these things is a never ending and sometimes losing battle. Societies evolve, for good or bad. For every one group that is satisfied, another group is not. Solving one problem inevitable another problem pops up. That’s life. It’s never perfect harmony as far as humans are concerned. :/

  27. Yein Jee on August 19th, 2008 at 10:30am

There will never be a definite right or wrong for having these concerts… different people will share different point of view in the end. I just hope that people are allowed to make our choices… it’s the basic freedom.

  32. Malaysia is Lame on August 21st, 2008 at 1:42pm

They want to cancel, cancel la. Let other country have the fun. 10 years from now all the teenagers in Malaysia grown up already, together they will leave Malaysia. Cuz it so darn boring. Stupid government neva let us have fun. What do they expect? Avril Lavigne wearing a baju kurung??!!! I neva think that Avril is sexy. Duh, so lame. I wish I can move to other countries.

wat do u mean if a kid is 12 years old…????

  36. Yein Jee on August 21st, 2008 at 7:56pm

Haylee… the ministry is asking the concert promoter to postpone it; but considering how pact Avril’s schedule is, it’s likely to be cancelled instead of postponed. The promoter is making an appeal, we’ll see how it goes.

RM600 for a VIP ticket? Hmmm I wonder if anyone is buying it.

kyon probably won’t revisit this post again to answer your ‘12 years old’ question… we were just chatting about age restrictions in concert, which we think doesn’t really exist in most cases.

  37. Haylee on August 21st, 2008 at 10:06pm

yeah..i know…they gunna postpone….yup…its RM600 each for V.I.P ticket…i already called the galaxy group.they said…its RM600…no discount…i hear that some bought the v.i.p ticket…if u wanna win free V.I.P tickets…u have to spot the hitz.fm crew car…the will locate at any college….idk whether its on another country besides KL…-.-”…
