Glad you like the site Sam.

Hong Kong is a good place to start a journey for people who have never visited Asia before... it's modern, safe, clean, with great food and easy to navigate, yet preserves a decent degree of Chinese tradition and heritage.

The major downside is that HK is relatively expensive compared to other Asian cities; still affordable though.

Lots of Hong Kongers do understand a bit of English, and lots of the restaurants' menu are written in both Chinese and English... unless you are trying some really local places and restaurants, communication shouldn't be a huge problem.

Hong Kongers are friendly in general; however, in some places (especially non-tourist area) the locals might show impatience if you are indecisive... for example if you are slow in ordering your food. I guess it's just their fast tempo of living and nothing hostile about that.
