A commercial film from BBC Sport for the Beijing Olympic Games…

The animation and music are based upon epic Chinese folklore “Journey to the West”, and produced by Jamie Hewlett and Damon Albarn, creators of Gorillaz.

The lyrics are about overcoming obstacles and challenges to achieve the dreams, which blended pretty well with the Olympic spirit and the moral of the original story.

kyon… that’s the general responses from Chinese netizens. Well, if you are familiar with Gorillaz you would know that the creators are pretty much consistent with their own style and didn’t target the monkey in particular.

cole… hmmm… I wonder why. It reminded me of Dragon Balls though.

It just reminded me of the monkey king in Forbidden Kingdom with Jet LI.

…or Monkey God, I can’t remember exactly what he was called but Jet Li was great I thought as that character with his magic stick.

the scenery is beautiful, and a good effort for the games… but the characters/ facial expressions seem to lack a lil.
