Faith Yang is a popular Taiwanese singer. She made her singing debut in 1996, released four albums to date, and was the winner of the Golden Melody Awards in 2000 for best female vocalist and best album.
Sharing here a few songs (titles are loose translations) that I like from Faith. Her songs are not really appealing when I first listened to it, but it has a certain something with her performance that hooked me up eventually.
I Gave My Love (我給的愛)… describes the broken heart of a lady who gave everything
in a relationship but still couldn’t keep the it intact
Sky of Stars (星星堆滿天)… hit song from her debut album “One” in 1997…
about the love-hate and bitter-sweet in a relationship
Lady Lord (女爵)… hit song in 2006; lyrics are a bit abstractive, relates to loneliness
Still (靜止)… about boredom; a relatively joyish song from Faith

bb… agree; it’s mainly due to her low-profile approach though. You won’t find much press coverage about her besides her music, which is actually a good thing in some sense… but most people would forget about her after some time because of the low exposure.
I would speculate that another reason she doesn’t get much press is because Taiwan music scene seems to be more pop oriented. This girl seems to be more alternative rock or folk rock sounding.
I don’t think the music genre is a concern, maybe a bit, but not a huge factor.
There are some rock bands and singers that are doing very well in Taiwan… Mayday, Wu Bai, Shin, Chang Chen Yue, Stanley Wong etc. I think Faith has been doing reasonably well too.
I LOVE her. She’s the best female singer who’s native in Taiwan. (Although she went to Australia)
