Hong Kong artist Gillian Chung is trying her luck in Hollywood to make her career comeback after the infamous nude photos scandal.

The 27-year-old actress and pop singer was in US to audition for a role in movie “Pinkville”, directed by Oliver Stone and starring Bruce Willis. The movie is based on My Lai Massacre, a real event in which several hundred Vietnamese civilians were killed by US soldiers during the Vietnam War in 1972.

It’s reported that Oliver Stone invited Gillian to the audition for a supporting role in the movie.

The Edison sex photos scandal

The scandal started in early 2008 when hundreds of nude (and semi-nude) photos of Chinese-Canadian star Edison Chen and other female artists were posted online; Gillian was among them.

It’s believed that the photos were stolen from Edison’s personal computer when he sent it for repair. Although Edison and Gillian (and other girls) are basically victims of the incident, their public reputation is heavily dented.

Gillian in particular has been heavily hit. She was previously seen as a role model for her healthy image, but it vanished completely after the saga; and she finds it difficult to make her career comeback in Hong Kong since then.

wow, long time no see gillian.
so she’s finally back in hk now?
i heard that she was in japan before she went to audition in hollywood.
i don’t think her career would go anywhere if she stays in hk.
before the scandal, she always had a cute and healthy image in the group twins with her bandmate charlene.
i think their group is very unlikely to go on…
trying her luck in hollywood is a must.
i also read in a chinese article rumouring that jackie chan was involved in this audition chance that gillian has.

There are quite some rumours flying around… the only facts are that Gillian did go for an audition in US and is back to HK now.

I actually think that she still has a chance back in Hong Kong; some stars that featured in explicit movies have made successful comeback with new images… I won’t write off Gillian yet. Question is if she is ready to face the extra pressure to rebuild her reputation; things are not as easy as it used to be.

i think the problem with gillian in hk is that hk people think that they have been tricked to believe that gillian is such a good girl. not that having sex makes you a bad girl, but this is what the majority of conservative people in hk think. twins is also a big idol for a lot of kids in hk. after the scandal, i don’t think the parents of many children would continue to let their kids support twins.

Ya, it’s what the papers said, and quite true. Gillian can’t go back with her sweet image, that’s for sure… she can still make it in HK, but needs to try something new obviously.

that does not look like gillian…looks like Uhm Jung Hwa…especially her nose.!!

  6. kyon on July 6th, 2008 at 12:17pm

why not just retired? she has made enough money to not work for the rest of her life.

  7. Yein Jee on July 6th, 2008 at 9:39pm

She is just 27… how is she supposed to live the rest of her life without doing anything? She needs to work on something, not just for the money, but to kill time and to continue learning new things in life.

It might sound difficult for her to rebuild her entertainment career, but she doesn’t have much choice obviously… it’s not any easier if she tries to work on other profession. Frankly, the best option is to try her luck overseas like what she is doing now.

lol, she can’t just quit now.
remember her company eeg always sign super long contracts with their artistes?
gillian probably has another 7/8 years to go with eeg.
eeg won’t give up on her that fast either.
she’ll just have to find something to do for these years to earn money for eeg.

  9. Yein Jee on July 7th, 2008 at 4:38am

Well, the current situation might be working against EEG’s favour. Their contract is long, but there are terms that favour the artists as well… for example they are guaranteed to work in xxx movies and to release xxx albums during the contract terms, which the company might need to compensate them if they failed to fulfill their responsibility.

  10. bb on July 7th, 2008 at 11:49am

I’ll buy, if gillian makes a xxx.
forget eeg she should come and work for me.

  11. kyon on July 7th, 2008 at 3:43pm

long contracts, thats so typical eeg style. i think she will migrate to other countries in future, some place that she is not famous.

goodluck for her…anyways, hollywood is more liberated than hk…

  13. Yein Jee on July 8th, 2008 at 2:22am

yellowpaint… probably. There are actually suggestions that the photos might do more good than harm if she wants to build her Hollywood career… reminds me of Paris Hilton.

Ya, I can see that… it’s so not like you at the first place.

  16. bb on July 8th, 2008 at 2:13pm

    LOL!
thanks, i’ll take that as a compliment =]

I do hope she makes a successful comeback, whether through HK or through other places.

    Good luck to her!!

  18. Mandy on August 13th, 2008 at 1:21pm

I think the people in Hong Kong need to get with the program, here.

These girls were VICTIMS of Edison Chen’s sick hobby, and girls like Gillian Chung, who have proven that they’re good actresses and singers, shouldn’t have their career ruined like this.

I also think that Zhang Yimou’s decision to remove her from the Olympic roster was done in bad taste, considering he’s had affairs with both Gong Li and Zhang Ziyi in his day.

So what if she had sex with Edison Chen? That shouldn’t automatically make her a bad role model. It’s not like she’s going around supporting premarital and unprotected sex.

What does that make the parents of those children? After all, they had to have had sex at SOME point to give their children life.

People are overreacting to this exposure, and any children who have found those pictures on the Internet (which isn’t so hard to do) need to be monitored while they’re on the Internet.

  19. Yein Jee on August 13th, 2008 at 2:33pm

Mandy… you are right that Gillian and the girls are the victims in this case. I actually think that Edison is a victim too… it’s his life, his own business and none of ours.

The issue with this situation is the contrast of public image which Gillian was portrayed with who she is in real life. Frankly, I couldn’t bother much… but unfortunately, not all people are as open minded.

Most people are forgetful though, and forgiving too. Gillian needs to face extra pressure for sure, but she does have a chance to make a successful comeback.
