lol, isn’t the population of iceland really low?
when i was young, i thought no one even lives there.
i’m really proud of these countries for being peaceful.
my country [canada] is ranked 11!
    that’s pretty high.
i agree that canadians in general are polite and don’t enjoy violence.
i hate that there’s always a stereotype that canada is just like the united states.
that is totally false and i’m glad that this ranking proved it.
i also looked at china’s placement since i’m chinese.
they’re at 67. not high, but hope they can get better.

The population in Iceland is just above 300k. The cost of living is pretty high there, but I have read some good stuff above them.

Ya, it’s a general perception that Canada and US are sharing similar entity… the economic bonding between the two nations are so strong that people often mistaken that both the countries are always in the same direction in every cases.

I saw US at 97. It is better than what i expected. I tot they will in the last 10 since they have created wars for the past few years.

kuanchong… it depends on how the GPI was determined. I guess it’s counting on the peacefulness within the country as well as the surrounding countries, while the other factors would probably play just a small weight in the index.

This ranking does contain bias of crime in general public and outliers. Russia(131 ranking) has high crime rate mostly because of having mafia relations. On the other hand, life of people in the streets are safer comparing to people in Cuba(ranking). The way of weighing crime rate in Turkey is also calculated improperly. Military is basically in war with world-wide recognized terrorist organization resulting of loss of military soldiers. In turn, such data also included in calculation in crime rate. I personally would rather to live in Turkey (115 ranking) than Hungary(18 ranking) or slovenia (16 ranking).

vapour… every charts and rankings like this would be biased in certain ways. I think this GPI actually weigh the war-weariness quite high compared to the crime rates… Middle East countries can’t get high obviously even if their crime rate is extremely low.
