Pop group TVXQ (known as Tōhōshinki in Japan) tops the singles’ sales chart for two consecutive weeks with their 24th Japanese single “Jumon-Mirotic”. This is their 4th chart topping Japanese single in 2008.
Actor turn singer Lee Byung-hun claims the 2nd spot also for two weeks in a role with his debut single, “Itsuka”; while Ryu Si-won dropping from 3rd to 4th with his 8th single “Kimito Boku”.
To be frank, I’m quite puzzled how the songs managed to lead the charts. I can understand that Mirotic is appealing to some audiences (although not to my liking), but the other two are just so average. Anyhow, sharing all three music videos below…
Tohoshinki – Mirotic
Lee Byung-hun – Itsuka
Ryu Si-won – Kimi to Boku
Couldn’t find the official MV; sharing a fan-made video instead…

don’t be puzzled dear, hallyu stars only manage to lead Oricon in the absence of big-name jpop stars like Namie, Nakashima, Aoyama or JE idols like kinki kids and kattun. just like this week, a lot of new singles have been released thus mirotic dropped significantly to around 30s from being in the 8th spot. japan still is xenophobic it seems.
You have a fair point; most of the big names in J-pop are not in action recently.
Well, congratilations toTohoshinki. The guys have worked really hard to make it in Japan even if their fanbase is not as huge as the jpop stars.
It seems the majority of the big names have not released something in a while , Kat-tun is releasing a christmas song soon and I’m not sure if the remixed Hikki song will be released as a single.
to be honest, lee byung hun can’t sing. i am surprised he managed to get to 2nd spot.. he must have lots of japanese fans supporting him. i am curious what movies or dramas make him so popular? i can only think of ‘all in’, but is the drama that popular in Japan?
ryu shi-won also… what makes him so popular in japan? i think he is not that popular in korea now already isn’t it?
kyon… interesting questions. I’m not really sure (about which drama), but I am guessing “Beautiful Days” which starred both LBH and RSW (and also Choi Ji-woo).
Can’t really tell how popular RSW is in Korea nowadays; he is focusing his career in Japan and hasn’t involved much in Korean showbiz for the past 2-3 years.
