Researchers at the University of California in Berkeley have developed a material that can bend light around 3D objects making them ‘disappear’.

The materials do not occur naturally but have been created on a nano scale, measured in billionths of a metre. The team says the principles could one day be scaled up to make invisibility cloaks large enough to hide people. [more on BBC]

Harry Potter’s fans must be so excited about the news. I am a bit worried on contrary, sometimes I just feel that the technology developments are a bit overwhelming to handle… I think I am getting old.

wow, science and technology are amazing.
this seems cool, but kind of freaky too.
imagine someone wore that cloak and they’re secretly spying on you, but you can’t see them…haha.
    and this might increase crimes?
but under what conditions would this cloak really be invisible?

You need to ask the scientists on the last question.

I don’t think the crimes would increase with the use of the technology… I can imagine it being something really expensive, or limited for military usage.

    the japanese already invented this…

nhoang… the Japanese invention is working differently. It involves using video technology, a bit like recording the image behind the body and reflects it at the front of the cloak. This latest breakthrough however is about creating a new material to make the cloak.

invisible cloak will benefit criminals and terrorists than benefit any ordinary good people in the society.
