An Italian priest was planning to organise an online beauty pageant for nuns to fight the stereotype that they are all old and dour.

Father Antonio Rungi, a theologian and schoolteacher from Naples, was planning to run the “Miss Sister” (or “Sister Italia”) contest via online voting in hope to give the nuns a chance to show off their work and image [via News and ABC]
Update – the plan is suspended.

It’s kind of ironiic they want to do that considering one of the whole ideas behind being a Catholic nun is the image of modesty and the idea of not making a show out of their beauty.
Oh well, times they are a changing.
Question is whether the contest will bring positive image to the religion.
I am not a religious person, so I am not going deep into religious implications… but I can see that the contest can create more interaction between the churches and the commoners… which might not be a bad idea.
