A Japanese man has recently started an online petition to urge the government to legalise marriage with a two-dimensional (i.e. anime and comics) character… more than 2400 netizens have signed the petition so far.
The fella states that he is no longer interested with real three dimensional world, but wants to become an inhabitant of a two-dimensional world. He reckons though, that it’s impossible to achieve his dream with present day technology… thus thinking of the possibility to legalise marriage with a two-dimensional character instead.
He also said that he would like to marry Asahina Mikuru (pic) from popular Japanese anime/manga “The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya” [via Gaijinheart]
This kind of thing is bound to happen when homosexuals all over the world demand the right to marry someone of the same gender. The definition of marriage is being destroyed and now people think it’s OK to marry a dog, a tube of toothpaste, a Victoria Secret magazine, or a mathematical equation.

Uh, how the hell did gay marriage influenced this kind of thing to happen? Dude, personally I don’t give a damn about who marries who whether gay, straight or whatever but don’t you think you’re laying too heavy of a claim to them?
Obviously, gay marriage or not, the guy who started this petition has some problems with his perception of reality which can be anything, anything at all, but I hardly believe having gay marriages influenced him to think 2d characters are also realistic in real life.
i think, in todays world anything can happen, you can even marry a lamp post for all i care, marriage is simply a legalized formation of your love to someone, or in this case; something..
I’m neither pro nor contra to the idea. I personally find it a little surreal. But who am i to judge, who are we to judge, eh?
I say let him, what harm can it bring to us? Disturbing? i dont think so.. Maybe legal implications like royalty, such and such is gonna be a little cumbersome, but nothing we cannot solve, eh?
Love is your personal thing, your decision. I dont see why we should discriminate love on what we think it should be. Didnt people say love has no boundaries? Applies too here..

I know that this isn’t hilarious because i’ve been down and all in a depression because of Asahina Mikuru, the problem was the fact that she isn’t real, and i just couldn’t accept that. On actual days, i don’t care anymore, but i still preffer Asahina Mikuru, but i know that she isn’t real, so w/e, just a dream.

i never knew people would go that far. it alot of anime girls i like,Karen Onodera, Mizuho Kazami ,Miina Miyafuji, etc i can go on all day. but i would not go that far to marry them. but if the person that Cosplay and look just like them… then hell ya sign me up!.lol

This guy should know that anime characters are meant to look like real people so why don’t he just find a real *underlined twice… “look-a-like” of Asahina. (Besides the new season of the Haruhi’s anime needs her as all the guys will die without her XD)
Well at Prop8’s point of view, he / she is probably another radical christian who thinks marriage is only meant for a male n female.
Anybody can marry each other, i am not homophobic at all; heck i don’t really care if two same sexual partners marry each other.
But what he/she said bout a dog, toothpaste or a mathematical equation is going a little too far into saying something like that.
But those who wanna marry a cartoon / anime character are probably desperate or in denial or just not lucky at all.
