I realize this is a very old article but I had to comment anyway. I can’t imagine keeping my image secret from my husband for 30 years. I’m not sure I could have resisted the urge to see him. The face reveals so much about a person. Staying shrouded in mystery must be an art.

He-heh, it’s sort of an ironic inequality, except it’s against the man in a way. She can look apon his face but he can never look apon hers. And men generally put more stock in looks than women anyway. Completely backwards.

for this case, i’m totally on the husband’s side.
this tradition makes no sense.
what’s the point of getting married then?
all humans have curiosity.
you can’t blame the man for doing that.
it’s like you have no connection with someone who’s supposed to be really close to you.
how sad it is to be in this culture…
