The inaugural Anime Festival Asia (AFA) will be held at Singapore’s Suntec International Convention and Exhibition Centre on November 22-23, 2008.
The festival will feature directors, producers, manga artists and creative individuals from Japan’s entertainment industries. The organisers are expecting turnout in excess of 80,000 visitors.

Anime and otaku culture is huge in South East Asia; there are a few notable anime events in the region, but mostly limited to cosplay fest because of the lack in contents from commercial exhibitors.
The announcement of AFA08 is certainly going to excite the anime fans; will keep an eye on this… might consider flying to Singapore if it’s creating enough hype by November, and I hope it does.
i hope its not another flop, get somebody famous to come here, someone like aya hirano and I’ll be very happy :p
Well, if they can get the likes of Aya Hirano they can expect more than 80,000 visitors… otaku will be flying in from all around the world lol.
Personally I’m ok if they couldn’t get any big names, I am not really into anime anyway… just wanted to experience something like Comiket or Wonder Festival in Japan, which seems chaotically fun.

i really hope that one day AFA will be held in Malaysia….:-(( kalau boleh,i want to tell Naoko Takeuchi that i want to make a voice for Seiya Kou in Sailormoon after it’s seiyuu,Shiho Niiyama passed away 8 years ago because of leukimia.i promise that i will broke women’s domination and this will be the first time i will make a voice for female character.i say this bcoz sometimes in Japan,some of female seiyuu’s make a voice for male character especially boy character.if they can do that,i can do otherwise.you want to know,i’m a fan of Shiho Niiyama and also a fan of Azizah Jais bcoz she’s the one who make a voice for Nobita and Shinchan’s mother.everytime i hear her(Azizah Jais) voice,i’m so happy that one day i want to make a collaboration and team-up with her.i can make a voice just a little bit like her.you want to know,sometimes i call Filem Karya Nusa to work there and after i call them,all the people who work at FKN knows about me.just waiting for a free time to go there.i did watching Sailormoon Sailorstars so many times and at the same time,i do some rehearsal.i keep practising and try to memorising the scripts for the character that i bring.
Interesting ambition Hafizi… it’s actually the first time I’ve heard from a Malaysian who wants to become a seiyuu. Good luck with that.

yo hafizi, i heard from a friend Singapore has a studio for bahasa dubbing of anime, they did school rumble and domo-kun for ntv7. i can tell this from the way the dubbers speak – they say ibu instead of mak, bilang in place of bagitau and sometimes ‘ah for lah. bit awkward but got the hang of it. i believe they know anime better than malaysian dubbers
meanwhile, malaysian dubbers esp filem karya nusa apparently turned their focus toward american cartoons over the past couple of years. look at astro: six bm dubbed movies over the past two years, all AMERICAN too! Imagine – Mawi, a turtle? frankly, i’m appalled by how filem karya nusa handled sgt keroro and naruto of late, and i suspect something is up with fkn as malaysian tv had not procured any anime dubbing work from them since late last year. some titles like kamen rider series, chibi maruko and kiteretsu started with filem karya nusa for bm dubbing but switched to another company midway, can’t remember the name (i got sharp ears, no?)
in short, the malaysian (or bahasa melayu, to include singapore) dubbing scene changed so much over 2 years that i badly want to know what exactly went on. our tabloids should scoop on them more often. and since they don’t edit the opening and ending to input local dub credits which i hope they start doing so, all i have 4 now are my sharp ears.
cl,i agree with you.you’re totally right.i know it all along.i can feel and suspect there’s something going on and something wrong about this.animes like mirmo zibang that i watch 2 or 3 years ago was dubbed by fkn but why 1 or 2 years later it was dubbed by other company? i thought and hope the anime ‘Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle’ will dubbed by fkn but why the other company dubbed it? i still don’t understand what do you mean by ‘they know anime better than malaysian dubbers’?? is singapore an ‘anime know-ers’ compared to other country in asia??
on your 2nd paragraph,you’re right too.i still don’t know why they make a change to american cartoons on this 2 years kebelakangan ni.when they do this,i felt a little dissapointment on them. but why they continued dubbing animes like shinchan? about this,kudos to fkn. i wish them to continue dubbing it.but why just shinchan? why they don’t choose other animes that not appear on malaysian tv such as Tokyo Mew Mew,Magic Knight Rayearth,Galaxy Angels,Tenchi Muyo,Clamp Campus Detective,Perfect Blue,Battle Skipper,Uta Kata,Air,Alfen Lied,Boy Meets Girl,Sister Princess,Gift and Pia Carrot?
you want to know,after Sailormoon on malaysian tv ends on December 2001,actually,it doesn’t over yet.there’s still one more seasons left,which is Sailorstars.now 7 years has gone by and why the Sailorstars doesn’t appeared on malaysian tv? i know that one of the episodes,especially the finale contains nudity.about this i hope that finas ‘greying’ the uncensored part.maybe some of them don’t know that Sailor Starlights actually their gender is male.about these animes,digimon and inuyasha,for digimon,that anime is not over yet.there’s so many season that they don’t dubbed yet.same as inuyasha.i think currently they dubbed just 50 to 60 episodes.actually this anime have 167 episodes.
on the 3rd paragraph,i understand by what you say.i know there’s something wrong and what exactly went wrong about this.we must dig this really deeply and from now on,we must ‘terjah’ them cukup-cukup and force them to tell everything and get the honest explanation from them.
if u know karya nusa’s contacts y not ask them? btw i wrote an email to the star’s otakuzone to terjah our dubbers. tv3’s remaja will air their scoop on the dubbing scene 2moro
whan i said ‘they know anime better than malaysian dubbers’ it was just an opinion, my agak-agak. i hear some cuter female voices from them on school rumble, imho
some people say American cartoons are the true safe haven for dubbers… :\ dubbing is very huge in france, germany and spain; it’s not uncommon to watch dubbed american dramas over there. at times it makes me think “english is lingua franca KONON; wat penat kerajaan belanja berbilion ringgit ajar sains dan matematik dlm BI” (I’m not here to undermine English in anyway, perhaps there are certain things we’ve misconceived about English)
oh yeah i got another explanation other studios are raking in the anime…perhaps the anime distributors are becoming fussy, puzzled with FKN’s ‘weird’ voices (no offence to them) i don’t get why the doraemon voice actress gets to voice cute “moe” young girls which i feel can ruin the characters; i really believe dats y distributors ran off to other studios 4 better deals and better voices, which aren’t guaranteed either. :P
I love watching anime dubbed in bahasa melayu especially fruit basket di ntv7 but sadly tak habis episodnyer lagi…..why?????? if they sale it on vcd/dvd i will buy it although how much it cost
