Neo, thanks for the compliment.

Frankly, I am not sure how to put it into words, but I'll try. The basic of panning is to focus on the subject and move with it for a certain distance before snapping the shot.

For a good effect, the shutter speed has to be set lower... high shutter speed would probably produce a sharp picture, but without the panning effect. My best photos come with around 1/60-1/120 range. 1/60 is the best, but the success rate is a bit low. Most of my decent photos are taken with 1/100.

It's really about practice like what kuanchong said, I took about 200 racing photos during the event... it sucks at first, but become better later on. Give me another week or two and I might become an expert lol.

Neo, Panning is not that difficult as most people thought. What you need is just practices. As mentioned by YJ, >> It’s trial and error… at the beginning it’s getting a good pic from every 10-20 shots, and gradually one in every 10 shots, and gradually one in every three to four.

Slowly, you will then play with the setting which can enrich the effects. have fun!

JJ... practice and practice perhaps. It's trial and error... at the beginning it's getting a good pic from every 10-20 shots, and gradually one in every 10 shots, and gradually one in every three to four.

The photography technique is called 'panning', which is used to show the motion of moving objects by blurring the background while keeping the moving object sharp. Check out wiki for its basic intro...

I am still in learning process; a good lense might help too, which is probably what I need next.

kc... thanks, I hope you've enjoy the event as I did :)

yp... I think a eco-friendly car racing would come pretty soon. We are having solar-power or electric-power car racing occasionally around the world, I won't be surprise if I see other kind of races using energy efficient sources.

Thanks for the compliment kyon... there are definitely some improvement, but there are still plenty of rooms for further improvements. It's a fun experience though, both the event and the photography.
