Was checking some info on Dragonball (the movie)… as it was originally scheduled to release this summer; didn’t realise that it was postponed to April 2009.

Dragonball movie is starring Justin Chatwin, James Marsters, Jamie Chung, Emmy Rossum, Chow Yun Fat, Joon Park and Eriko Tamura etc.

The movie created some hype when it was announced last year that Hong Kong star Stephen Chow, a renowned DB fan, would be working with Twentieth Century Fox to produce a live movie adapted from the popular Japanese anime and manga.

The initial buzz was not all positive though, as lots of the Dragon Ball fans are worried that the movie would spoil the original work. Judging from some recent developments, it seems that their worry are not entirely baseless.

I won’t say that I am a huge fan of Dragon Ball, but it was one of the first Japanese manga that I read… and I do like it. Hope that the movie will at least be watchable.

i hope the movie will not be too comical like speed racer. the cast is weak but if the production is good it can still make a good movie. like transfomer.. the cast was weak too but they now become stars because the movie is popular.

    You have a point kyon.

Actually I am not too worry about the cast, but how the overall production would be. It’s not easy to adapt a Japanese manga into a movie; manga like Dragon Ball is so imaginative that most of the settings are unreal, and it really push the creativity of the production team to the max.

Ya, I am going to watch it regardless. Btw, how much is the cinema tickets in US/Canada in general?

They could go “camp” or they could go “serious”. I think they should make a choice and not stick somewhere halfway.

really???in real life??as in???not dubbed????hmmm..i not really a fan of anime….however there are just some which i like but i prefer watching it on cartoons…wonder how will they shoot the fight scenes…i remember the “kame kame wave”???haha…it’s too cartoonish to be real…but yea it’s interesting..especially for my brothers…

Sjusjun… they have to be serious, because it would be quite impossible to show the real nature of the manga because of the overwhelming fiction. Problem is, the characters aren’t suppose to look serious… that makes me wonder if it’s a wise decision to make the movie.

yp… yupe, a live action movie. I would prefer to watch it as anime or manga as well… it sounds like a challenging project for sure… hope that it won’t be too disappointing.

Some places in the US are $9.50 for tickets in the evenings after 5PM. Early show matinee tickets can be gotten for $4-5. I know of one theater that sells for something like $1.50 – $2. But they usually show the movies that are several months old.

bb… comfortable enough. Modern settings, comfy seats, air-conditioned and decent audio and visual.

cole… we have cheaper tickets for a day or two during the week, I think it’s half price on Wednesday… not really sure, not going to cinema often these days.

I love dragon ball but I’m not sure about the live action. Usually when they try to take an unrealistic show like dragon ball and make it with real people it ends up looking corny and fake, but we’ll see. Who knows? Maybe they will surprise us?

Well, perhaps the movie is better than expected, which would be a huge surprise indeed considering the rather disappointing images and teasers so far.
