“So Hot” music video from Korean group Wonder Girls; the song is getting really hot in Korea at the moment…
Personally, I think the song it’s just ok. Besides, I am not really fond when the companies are pushing their artists to look (and act) way beyond their age.

Lol, great song about craving attention and yet hating it. The video really hits it on the head in regards to “contradiction”. The kind of typical fickledness that people are all about these days…especially sexy girls who always want to be the center of attention with the boys while turning their nose up at them at the same time and NEVER being satisfied.
Welcome Asian stars to the crazy western-styled, image conscious, out of touch world of over comercialsm and ridiculous emphasis on celebritism. It’s ruined the west and now it’s gonna ruin you. (am I being pessimistic or realistic…? :P)
Anyway, I love the part about (and I’m paraphrasing here) “oh why did Mom and dad make me this way, I just wanna have a quiet life like the other girls…but I’m so hot, I got charm and all the boys look at me” bla bla etc. Lol
The old saying, “You can’t have your cake and eat it too” sure does apply here. You’re ultimately gonna sacrifice something for another.
But those Korean girls ARE sexy!!!
Two of the girls are still minors by some countries’ standard… sexy is not really the best term to fit their age.
But I guess commercialism is everything these days… and it might be a bad thing as you mentioned.
the song sounded ok in the beginning.
then it got annoying…
i don’t think that they are sexy at all in this video though.
sexy comes from character. it’s a feeling…not about how you dance or what you wear.
i guess it just doesn’t work when they are forced to act so mature.
and what’s with the lyrics? saying that yourself is hot…and keep on repeating it until it drives people crazy =_=
All I can say is the lyrics is such a good description of how some younger generation today can get a bit too caught up with themselves (not that I’m much older than them… XP)…
I think sexy doesn’t nessesarily fall into age bounderies unless you are talking really young, then it’s questionable and suspicious what a person’s motives are and legal issues enter into the mix as well..
But it’s entirley possible and probable that a seventeen year old standing next to an eighteen year old will be just as “sexy” and most people might not be able to know the age difference unless they were told. A girl could be about to turn eighteen next week, but legally she’s not of age untill then,…yet will she be any more or less sexy in a weeks time? Age as a number serves as a legal cut off point for the girl’s protection as a level for which the law to gage by. It is nessesary in order to to have some sort of legal standard.
Most countries have determined that 18 is a generally fair age to say that a girl is mature both physically and mentally to be considered a consenting adult. Same with males. But “sexiness” itself is inevitably going to vary in years of age give or take a few. It always has. It wasn’t uncommon years ago for a forty five year old man to marry a twenty five year old woman…or probably sometimes younger in more rural areas. Society’s standards change over time.
On the subject of girls critisizing men for looking at them as sexy or whatever. I will say that if girls don’t like guys thinking they are sexy, then they shouldn’t be putting themselves out there as being sexy and trying to titilate men. I mean listen to the lyrics…”I’m so hot, I’m so sexy etc. Guys turn their heads bla bla. Obviously, that’s what girls want. It feeds their egos. That’s a conbtradiction. Young girls today CAN and DO get too caught up in themselves. Most girls would go crazy from attention starvation if the majority of men all of a sudden decided to refrain from looking at them and thinking they were sexy…when obviously there are trying to BE sexy. It irritates me to hear women call men jerks for seeing them as sex objects while all the while they are trying to play on their physical attractiveness to men. It’s hipocritical on their part.
Sorry for the long post. ;P
bb… sexiness = body, mind, soul :)
jcy1031… true true.
anon#5… hmmm… sophiscated. Looking sexy doesn’t mean that the women wanted to be seen as sex objects… some of them just wanted to be noticed, and that’s probably it.
I doubt that the girls are that naive these days. With lyrics like “I’m so Hot hot hot, I’m so pretty” and dressing suggestively in short shorts and teasing and wiggling their tushy’s, what do they expect?! There’s definitly an obvious message being sent there. So they bring it on themselves when men stare at them. And there’s nothing wrong with it…especially when the girls know full well what they are doing when they flirt and dress and act seductively as they do. And they are aware what reactions they’ll get from men. It’s why they are doing what they do in the first place. Sexy will translate into sex object in some cases. But maybe just maybe they are also just misinterpreting men or just taking advantage in order to put men in a bad light when men naturally respond to all the flirting and titillation.
Afterall, it’s the girls that use the term “sex objects” to describe what they think men see them as. Men?…they just know what they like. And apparently women know it too. Maybe women just need to become more comfortable with themselves.
There’s lot’s of ways to “just be noticed”, but acting sexy and “seductive” is definitly gonna get the men following them around and looking at them. Like I said, that’s kind of the point of acting flirtatious and seductive anyway. No big deal. So they shouldn’t complain. Which is what the song is doing while at the same time saying they like it.
They’re so child-like and delusional. Acting like to be adults, when in fact they’re so chesssy.
When they say they’re hot, hot, hot, I say not, not, not.
You can be more hot and sexy without being like Britney and be more like Mariah. Instead of saying it literally in your lyrics, say it better.
Where have all the real songs gone too???
the girls are cute, but i prefer tell me more than this. this is a bit too slutty for their age…. its more suitable for hyori, chae yeon or jewelry for example but not for wondergirls.
the beat is ok…but i’m getting tired of hearing the same kind of songs…there’s a lot more of songs like these in US and what i think is that we as asians should have distinction of songs…i believe we have better singers and talents yet to discover than those in the west.
but i can’t blame them…that’s the flow right now…
Oh where’s the love. Lets not make this a competition between east and west as to who has “better” talent. I believe talent spans the globe. The east has some pretty talented kids as well as the west. Granted the Asian music scene has been following the west alot in the pop music genre. But that’s OK, cause the west has been doing “pop” alot longer so it’s to be expected. One thing about the music world is they don’t get caught up in hoarding their craft from the rest of the world. They share. Still, I believe the Asian songwriters will eventually start to become more original in their music and sound. They already are actually. (it’s ultimately the writers and producers that make the difference in what direction music goes in) In fact, I bet we see alot more collaboration between east and west musicians as the world continues on it’s global course. Music these days is always going to cross cultural barriers, east or west, successful sounds in music will flourish.
Talents know no borders.
The biggest different between the east and west is the market. A decent album could easily sold for millions of copies in the west, a super popular in tens of millions… but in the east (with exception of the Japanaese), the most popular albums hardly sold for more than a million… in fact hardly more than half a million.
When there is a trend emerging, most if not all of the Asian singers (and companies) will try to ride the wave and make some profit while they still can.
The market is just too small in the east… and that’s probably why some Asian stars are trying hard to move into the western market these days. A small popularity in the west could be more profitable than being a superstar in the east.
Good points YeinJee. Everyone naturally wants to penetrate the biggest markets no matter where they are from, whether it’s music or any other business. In fact, i heard on the news the other day that slowly but surely, a small but growing number of westerners are gradually starting to look more and more to China and other developing parts of Asia for jobs as layoffs in the west become more prominate. I believe this will only increase in years to come, allthough slowly but steadily. I’ve sort of been predicting that for a few years now. The world is definitly becomming more and more global whether some like it or not. We are slowly entering a new era in our big ol world. :)
Somehow less catchy and parody-worthy than MIMS’ “This Is Why I’m Hot”. -__-
I have no problem with the girls’ representation in this video, despite the oversexualization. Even though these are supposedly role models for young girls, most of us (I’m just a little younger than the youngest member of Wondergirls myself) aren’t such celebrity followers that we imitate every last thing that they do. Don’t worry so much, guys.
That said, the song is just kind of dumb. Leave the “I’m so hot” to Paris Hilton and give me back my catchy and sweet “Tell Me”. JYP made a big mistake with this song, IMO.
Its catchy song ,but i am kinda tired of sexiness . Many girls use sex to seduce man too much this day and age. Why ?
I feel like man exploit women for their sexiness .Many girls dream of being singers ,models etc. Why not be scientist instead ,or doctor ? i feel ashamed being man.
The way I see it, I laugh at the shamelessly ditsy and bimbo-ish lyrics and listen to the song itself. If I looked at the lyrics for what they are, I’d be disgusted. But the song itself I look at as being just a song.
scientists are hot
