Yuko Ogura has won the 1st Japan Gravure Idol Award organised by gravure idol site ZAKZAK. The result was based on the sales of DVDs and photobooks, as well as exposure to media and appearances at public events. [via Tokyograph]

Gravure idols are Japanese models who posed primarily in bikinis and other provocative clothings for photo spreads in magazines, photobooks and DVDs. Some gravure idols would cross over into acting and singing… a few of the famous gravure idols could actually match the popularity of some A-list stars.

Below is the music video of “Onna no Ko ♥ Otoko no Ko” (オンナのコ ♥ オトコのコ; Girls ♥ Boys), a song from Yuko Ogura which was used as the ending theme for Japanese anime “School Rumble”…

Interesting she’s singing about how silly boys are…boys think girls are pretty silly as well. In fact it’s kind of a ’silly’ video and song. (Those silly Japanese, lol) but I guess it’s all about perception…right?!?!

The music was sooooosixties sounding and the bubble type also…very sixties (and early seventies) at least by western standards I suppose. Been there and done all that some might say.

HeZun, what’s your point? So the kids are white, big deal. Ever heard of multiculturalism and global inclusiveness. It’s where the world’s headed these days so get used to it. Note the kids were blonde as well.

In the west you’ll see advertisments and videos with every nationality represented. Black, white, asian, hispanic. Nobody has to nessesarily like it….but everyone pretty much has to accept it if you don’t want to be thought of as living in the dark ages these days.

The girl is cute ,but cannot be compared to Miss Lee HyoRi .
My favorite female in world . Hyori is just super beautiful ,cute ,sexy etc .

    Just lovely in general !!!!
I like Korean girls more than Japanese ..Korean sexy and cute . Japanese only cute ,no sexy at all .

i thought as a gravure idol, her style would be more sexy.
but in this mv, she’s more into the cute style.
i guess she’s really young then?

lol, when i see “gravure idol”, i think of leah dizon.

Most popular idols have an angelic face yet devilish figure… cute yet sexy. If you search online you could find some sexy pics of Yuko easily… just that I prefer to share something less provocative this round.

The video was from 2005/2006… she is around 24 now I think, not really a young age in gravure-idol terms.

Ya, Leah Dizon is also one of the popular ones. I don’t think she is as ‘gravure’ as she used to be… more like a pop-idol these days.

leah dizon? i heard her “star image” has gone down…maybe the japs are getting bored on her….from posting sexy pics/model where she was like discovered..then being a singer, which i personally don’t think she’s good at, to being a host….do those japs really are into sexy-ness???

leah dizon is more focused on her music career now, but she still does modelling occasionally. yes, her singing ability is not that great, but she is indeed a goddess for many young men. i’m not sure if anyone here likes her, but i heard she was pretty popular when she went to hk to promote a single and a photobook this year. so her market is not only in japan. i’m not sure if her popularity is fading, but that happens to any celebrity at a point in their career. i don’t think she got discovered by the japanese, but she sent a tape of herself dancing and singing to a japanese agency instead. her desire is to become a singer more than a gravure idol i guess.

speaking of the japanese, i don’t know if you can say they’re really into sexy stuff. just that they do have a big av market and they are really serious about this market.

Not sure how popular Leah Dizon still is, but she is well known outside of Japan… that’s a fact. Agree that she can’t really sing.

Well, it’s not fair to group all Japanese as sexy-craze people, it’s just part of their sub-culture… and with the population and spending power, the market will be huge if 1% of the population is into this stuff.
