Hong Kong based artist Jill Vidal has been officially charged by Japanese authorities under some illegal drug acts; the first court hearing will be on April 24th.
Jill and rumoured singer-boyfriend Kelvin Kwan (later released) were arrested in Tokyo on Feb 24 for marijuana possession; the cops later found more illegal drugs, believe to be heroin, from Jill’s hotel luggage.
It’s still uncertain if Jill would be charged for drug possession or drug smuggling; the earlier is likely to get her a parole (or max one year jail term), but the later could send her into jail for a much longer period.
Btw, it’s Jill’s 27th birthday tomorrow (Apr 13); obviously won’t be a happy one.
[Update] The verdict is out – Jill is set on parole for three years, which means if she doesn’t need to serve her two-years jail term if she doesn’t do anything really stupid in the three-years period.

serve them right. some of the young artists are too spoilt and need some teaching. marijuana is debatable, but heroin? and they bring it into a country that are strict with drugs, thats totally unrespectful to the law.
i’m also disappointed with some elder artists who keep on saying to give these people a chance. how about paying more attention to the good people who never committed crime?
accidental mistake? yes, give people a second chance. violating laws openly? send them to jail, and we may consider giving them a chance when they are out.
it seems a lot of celebrities in Japan have been caught for using marijuana, sumo wrestlers, actors, singers it’s like a epidemic.
Don’t know why it’s marijuana…
Marijuana is and has always been the most widely used drug. (It’s the predominate drug shipped by the Cartels of Mexico into the U.S.)
The heroin possession charge for Jill? Not good. Not good. Heroin has made a comeback in recent years. That’s a very addictive and nasty drug for sure.
i think it serves her right too.
it’s not that i hate her, but i’m not a fan either.
as a public figure, she should have known better.
being a singer in hk, she really has to mind her image, since most chinese people are sensitive to issues related to drugs.
on a side note, her twin sister janice vidal had also been rumoured to have taken drugs. janice is a bit more popular than her in hk, but there’s probably no more luck for the twins anymore in the industry from now on.
I think it’s sad that some celebrities get mixed up with hard drugs like Heroin. It’s a killer. Celebrity life has a long history of driving people to drugs for escape, depression, pain or probably most commonly…out of peer pressure from other celebrities and their producers/managers etc hanging out at parties and the lifestyle in general. But they have to learn to reject it. Otherwise it will ultimately ruin them. It’s really too bad.
hmmm, don’t you think she took a bribe from her wealthy boyfriend’s family so she take the wrap for the crime alone? how can he be innocent, they are lovers and he doesn’t know anything about the drugs, he is user as well…
Personally I think Kelvin knew about Jill’s addiction, but for beneficial of doubt… he might not be involved in the drugs himself.
Mind that the Japanese only found Heroin in Jill’s urine but not Kelvin… so we can’t tell if he is into it.
Do Jill Vidal need to go to Jail in Hong Kong for 2 yrs. And what is mean by 3 yrs suspend. But do Janice take drugs
No, she is not going to jail.
‘Suspend’ is a poor translation, it’s on ‘parole’ to be precise, which means she is not going to jail but is being watched by authorities. If she takes drug again during the parole period (in Japan), she will have to serve the two year jail term or even longer.
The Japan verdict has nothing to do in Hong Kong; it’s still unclear if the HKG authorities would have enough evidence to press charges or not, but at the moment… she’s free like a bird in HKG.
