Korean-American singer Jay Park (or Jaebum) from 2PM has quit the Korean pop group, at least temporary, following public outrage on some of his old online remarks which was revealed earlier this month…

“Korea is gay. I hate Koreans. I wanna come back… Korea is whack, but everyone thinks I’m like the illest rapper wen i suck nuts at rappin.”
I pity the singer. What he said was stupid, but it was just a rant from a teenager who left home to begin a new life at a foreign country. There’s probably a lack of cultural understanding between native and oversea Koreans… and culture shock could lead to stupid emotions sometimes.
He was wrong, but his mistake is understandable, and certainly forgiveable… thus it was a bit surprising to see him quitting so soon. I thought that he would endure the criticism and prove that he has changed for good; but the abuses were probably too much for him. He has returned to his home town Seattle since.
It’s not the end of the story; some 1500 fans gathered at Jay’s agency earlier today in a well mannered demonstration to protest against the company for not doing enough to help their idol in this case, and also to demand on having the singer back into the group.
Not really a fan of 2PM, but I hope the boys’ future are not seriously dampened by the saga, regardless of whether the member in exile is joining back or not.

If this happened 4 years ago, why would people still be angry now?
The comment was made in 2005, but only revealed by the netizens earlier this month.
Guess I’ll have to rephrase the post a bit :)
He’s probably going to come back b/c of all the protesting.
Also, I think the fans refused to go to 2PM’s events if JaeBum isn’t there.
I think not all the fans will join the boycott. Showing support for Jaebue is fine, but not to the extend of hurting the others’ future.
That picture was funny. These neitzens needs to get a life. Geez, everyone has made a comment about something they didn’t like but then later regrets it.
Hopefully, one day he will come back and forget about this in the past. You know someone needs to go on these neitzens personal site and find out what they truly write. I bet they have some hateful stuff on their also.
It doesn’t surprise me that he as a Korean-American would make those rude remarks. The guy obviously has an attitude problem and thinks a little too highly of himself. That’s pretty much common with many Asian-American teens I’ve encountered these days. We have to understand that once a foreign family moves to a prosperous country like the U.S. full of opportunities to lead a better life, their offspring kids tend to take alot for granted and lose alot of that appreciation coming to a place like America that their parents had to begin with.
In short, Jay Park is a spoiled loud mouth punk with a narrow mind.
@YeinJee – yes, I know it was released recently, but as resabambino said, everyone says something they regret. I don’t think he should be held accountable for his opinions 4 years ago…
cole… he probably was a spoiled brat as you mentioned; question is whether he still IS the loud mouth punk he used to be. He might have changed for good, we are not sure about that.
Steve… it depends on what was being said or done; and it depends on who’s saying what against who. Accountable or not… he deserves a second chance.
I certainly hope he’s changed, for his own good. At least learned some manners. It doesn’t do an entertainer’s career any good to disrespect the fans or the people in general in another country that you’ve never lived in for any long period of time if at all.
i think jyp are handling this poorly. i read his statement and its obvious he was doing nothing to help the boy. he speak like he was respecting his decision to leave, but if he told him to stay, i think jay might follow his advice. its like a wife asking for divorce and the husband say its the right thing to do and not tyring to save the marriage…. its pathetic.
@ cole and Yein Jee, you might want to read a letter by one of JaeBeom’s friend’s father at allkpop http://www.allkpop.com/index.php/full_story/jaebeom_wants_to_go_back_to_korea/
JaeBeom is not a spoil brat and his family is not wealthy. In fact in comparison, he probably had a tough childhood. Sure, there are things people shouldn’t say in public (or anywhere) but we have all said something we didn’t mean in the heat of the moment. as long as we live and learn from our mistake, everyone should be given a second chance. @cole, please do not put labels on people you haven’t met. Sterotyping is not something we want to teach our next generation.
As we have learnt time and time again, the internet is a very powerful tool. we should take care of what we upload as it can come back and bit you- like this case.
I hope Jaebeom will be strong and live pass this and move on with his life and show everyone all his hard work in 4 years of training will not been put to waste. Wish him all the best in whatever he decides to do.
i think that jaebeom should stay in 2pm..
he is a good leader of the group..
hope that he will join 2pm back after people forgetting bout this controversy..
i love seeing them doing their show coz they are really energetic..
2pm wont be the same without jaebom…
wateva it is i really hope that there will alwayz be 2pm group with or without him..coz i love to see all of them esp nickhun
