Random food from my Langkawi holiday in August 2009…

Nasi Pattaya (Pattaya rice) @ Oriental Village

Fried rice wrapped in an omelette, a common dish in Malaysia; in fact pretty common in East Asia with slight variances. The Malaysian version, I assumed, was originated from Thailand with its namesake popular beach-resort-city.

Teh Tarik @ Oriental Village

Teh tarik, literally pull tea in Malay, in which the milk tea is poured (or pulled) repetitively from one container to another to cool it off (some say it make the tea smoother) before being served; common drink in South East Asia.

The bubble on top is a by-product of the pulling; it’s not common to see a teh tarik being as bubbly like this though…

Fresh coconut @ Telaga Tujuh

Nothing beats a fresh coconut drink under the summer heat…

Fried noodle @ Eden

Malay style fried noodle at Eden eatery…

Nasi Lemak @ Kuah City

Nasi lemak, literally ‘fat rice’, without the fat though. The rice is cooked with coconut milk; often wrapped with banana leaf together with some sambal chillies and fried anchovies. Random meal in Kuah, the largest city on the island…

Cendol @ Cenang Beach

A mixture of coconut milk, sweetener and shaved ice, with beans, jellies, and sometimes glutinous rice; popular dessert in South East Asia, normally served by roadside stalls. The one in the photo is the worst I’ve ever had though…
