Rio de Janeiro was picked as the host city for Olympic 2016, beating Madrid, Tokyo and Chicago at the IOC voting in Copenhagen on Friday.

The Brazilian metropolis will be the first city from South America to host the world’s largest sporting event. The 2016 Olympic Games are scheduled to be held on August 5-21, while Paralympics on September 7-18.

    first time in south america? thats a surprise. rio will also host the world cup in 2014, two biggest sport events in two years, the brazilians must be very busy and happy lol.

    kyon… yupe, first in South America. I was rooting for them to win, it’s about time the South Americans get a bit of sport light.

    Besides, Brazil is one of the world’s sporting powerhouse. They don’t excel that much in Olympics, but they are very good in lots of sports.
