SM Entertainment Global Audition 2009 (US & Canada)

SM Entertainment, one of Korea’s largest talent management agencies, is kicking off its 09′ global audition on February 14th in its home ground, with plans to extend the audition to China, Japan, South East Asia, Canada and USA etc.

SM Entertainment Global Audition 2009

SM is looking for various talents in singing, acting, dancing, modelling etc. It’s said that all Asians are welcome regardless of nationality and age… but I doubt they would want a 40-year-old veteran lol.

[update] USA & Canada audition announced; no news on other places.

Nov 15 – Wilshire Plaza Hotel, Los Angeles
Nov 22 – Toronto Korean Center, Toronto
Nov 22 – Executive Plaza Hotel, Vancouver
Nov 27/28 – Korea Village, New York

Refer to SM Entertainment’s official website for more details. Also check out JYPE audition and Avex audition which are running in Oct/Nov in US and Canada.

okay so if i am a 13 year old, singing skill can be said average but i can sing in tune and high pitch…(not so high though), don’t really dance, don’t know korean, but know chinese and english. what do you think?

    • Babyboo says:

I think you just busting out a move every now and then because I read somewhere that there was this girl that auditions and the lady asked her if she knew how to dance and the girls said she was hoping they could teach her and then the lady just said that’s plain lazy. i think’s it’s good that you know chinese though.

  2. Anonymous says:

I think you’re pretty average. Even though you know Chinese, the main factor that would boost up your chances of getting in would have to be your vocal skills. But being standard is good enough.

  3. Anonymous says:

i read that sm chooses on looks more than talent ,is it true?

    • Anonymous says:

Well I wouldn’t say it ISN’T true, but of course they do take in to consideration on how your appearance is. But don’t feel too disappointed and let this sort of thing put you down.

Has anyone auditioned lately for SM Entertainment ?

Could someone help me in going about continuing education in Korea say if one made it as a trainee in SM?
I’m in Year 11 this year (Australia) and I’m planning on auditioning for SM in about two months time. If I make it, I’m thinking of attending an international high school in Korea that follow either the American or British school system, so I’m assuming they’d probably have SATs cause I heard the international schools are also designed for people who want to go to university in America. Is it possible to attend university in Korea without being a resident there? Or is it even possible to attend when you graduate from an international/foreign high school?

I know I shouldn’t be worrying about this yet, but becoming a singer, I’m just worried about an uncertain future, since it’s not like I’m going to be a singer for the rest of my life.

    • Yein Jee says:

Yes, there’s international high schools that follow western system.

Yes, it’s possible to attend universities in Korea without being a permanent resident. AFAIK most courses are in Korean (language), so I’m not sure how many options you’ll have if you are graduating from international schools.

  6. Babyboo says:

Just asking your opinion, but i’m the kind of person that LOVES to dance and speaking honestly, i think i’m pretty good and my singing is average. But i’m kinda nervous about talking to my parents about SM auditions. What would you guys think if i sent in a video for my audition and see if i pass the audition and THEN tell my parents that i want to be a singer. Please tell me if you think that plan is okay or i’m just being plain stupid.

    • Yein Jee says:

I think it’s ok. You don’t have much choice to begin with. It’s probably the best plan (if not the only plan).

      • Babyboo says:

Thanks, but i guess everything would a whole lot easier if they had audition held in places closer cause i live in northern washington and i can’t just drop by LA.

      • ._. says:

        • Yein Jee says:

Yeah I remember, there’s only a few who’s coming back here in the past 12 months… it’s been a long while since the 2009 audition. Good luck with your dream. On side note, there’s a lot other Kpop auditions worth looking nowadays beside SM.

          • ._. says:

  8. tenluv says:

I’m 13 I think i’m kindda good at singing and i’m Okay at dancing wat if your “FAT” but not tht fat !! !! n i don’t know how to speek korean! n how much song do we have to sing there??/! n do we really have to sing a korean song?? n my skin is not tht pale it’s brown !!

    • Yein Jee says:

Appearance matters, that’s a reality. But you are just 13, with proper diet and exercise your body will adjust fine.

Korean proficiency is less important. Can’t answer other questions, it’s been quite a while since SM has a global audition, things have changed.

  9. tenluv says:

btw is it good to Auddition on 13 ?? or am i too small for Auddition ?

  10. Babyboo says:

    Just some questions……
    1. would you pay for college (probably major in arts) or does the company pay for it? that’s my parents biggest worry.
    2. can you audition without having to travel all the way to LA cause my parents wouldn’t think that it’s worth it to go all the way down to LA.
    3. i’m vietnamese and can speak some vietnamese but i can probably improve if i ask my mom to help me, would the company like that?
plane tickets to korea, housing, food, school tuition is all payed for by the company or by us?
    4. are there any good tips for being scouted?

    Thanks

    • Yein Jee says:

      1. Not sure for college.
      2. Email.
      3. Any extra language helps, but to be frank it would be better if it’s a more universal language. General expenses (house, food etc.) paid by company.
      4. Just try and try on various auditions. Unless you have exceptionally good look and/or talent… the best way is just to try hard.

  11. Julie says:

I didn’t realise how long it’s been since I’ve wanted to audition for SM. Almost 3 years already and I still haven’t cause I’m always saying I’ll send in my audition tape next month. It’s kinda sad cause I feel like my dream is falling further away from me each year. I’m 16 and I know it’s not old but I feel too old to audition ==”
But now I’ve decided to wait until I graduate which will be the end of next year :)
