SM Entertainment, one of Korea’s largest talent management agencies, is kicking off its 09′ global audition on February 14th in its home ground, with plans to extend the audition to China, Japan, South East Asia, Canada and USA etc.

SM Entertainment Global Audition 2009

SM is looking for various talents in singing, acting, dancing, modelling etc. It’s said that all Asians are welcome regardless of nationality and age… but I doubt they would want a 40-year-old veteran lol.

[update] USA & Canada audition announced; no news on other places.

Nov 15 – Wilshire Plaza Hotel, Los Angeles
Nov 22 – Toronto Korean Center, Toronto
Nov 22 – Executive Plaza Hotel, Vancouver
Nov 27/28 – Korea Village, New York

Refer to SM Entertainment’s official website for more details. Also check out JYPE audition and Avex audition which are running in Oct/Nov in US and Canada.

Audition preparation for SMe

1. Singer – prepare 1 or 2 songs which you can sing without accompaniment. Please make sure that you are confident in your song selection and that the song fits best to your voice.

2. Dancer – Free Style Dancing, CD to be submitted to the reception desk on the audition date by the applicant. (If you do not bring any CD for dance, random music will be played.)

3. Actor – Impromptu Acting, memorized monologue to be prepared by applicant.

4. Model – Free posing. (5 or more)

5. Producer/Composer (Writer) – Producer/Composer (Writer) Demo CD or written music to be brought by the applicant.

i always emailed to 2009smhelp@smtown.com but seems, they will not reply me back..

well, maybe i can ask my question here..

aside from malaysia… what other countries will sm held an audition..?

  5. #45. Yein Jee on March 22nd, 2009

There’s no news about international schedule yet, and Malaysia is not a confirmed venue.

  6. #46. JiaMin on March 23rd, 2009

I emailed sm a while ago but I’ve still not recieved a reply yet… >.<
can you audition as a singing group?? Plus I heard that email auditions stand very very little chance…and i can’t make the “global” auditions because I live in england…btw when you audition, are you meant to sing acapella (without music) or with an instrumental? thanks in advance^^

  7. #47. irene on March 23rd, 2009

    JiaMin…

maybe, it would be acapella, if you noticed on their auditions, there is no music actually..

  8. #48. Yein Jee on March 23rd, 2009

JiaMin… from what I know (could be wrong) it’s individual auditions; about half a dozen people will be called into the audition room in one shot, each given about 10-20 seconds to perform (sing, dance, catwalk etc depending on categories)…

I think they don’t care if it’s Acappella or with instrument; but do mind that you only have a very short time to make an impression.

Unfortunate you don’t have much options beside email audition from UK… unless you are rich enough to attend an audition in Asia or US/Canada, and perhaps have a short holiday in between :p

  9. #49. JiaMin on March 24th, 2009

Yein Jee…ah, no, I’m not rich enough, though I wish I was ^^ Hm I guess my friends and I are going to have to audition by email or send them a CD through the post…hope it doesn’t get lost or anything! Are you expected to sing a korean song or is it okay to sing an english song? Cuz I’m not korean (I’m Chinese) so I’m a little worried that poor pronunciation will kinda bring down my performance a little… :S

btw if you dont mind me asking, how come you know so much about the auditions? I know you don’t work for Sm or anything, but I was just wondering ^^

They didn’t mention that it must be a Korean song.

Most of the info and answers are available on SM’s website; I guess I’m just more attentive to details than lots of the others.

is the auditions kinda like a tournament, like u have to pass first round then go to the next?
or is it just that u have to make an impression when u go there? (like theres only 1 round)

  12. #52. Yein Jee on March 31st, 2009

Junn… definitely not the American Idol type; but I am not sure if it’s just a round, or perhaps two for some selected few.

  13. #53. rYu on April 3rd, 2009

yein jee long time no see…=]
btw can i ask u something????
    can u audition through website….
so u dun hv to go to korea???
    wat r the conditions????
wat do i hv to do 1st???

  14. #54. ryu on April 3rd, 2009

    yein jee….=]
    long time no see…
    btw….
how could i audition through e-mail???
    what r the conditions???
    n even though it’s through e-mail…
do we hv to go to korea as well???

  15. #55. Yein Jee on April 3rd, 2009

The info should be available on SM’s website. I am having some internet connection problem now… will check the info later when the connection is getting better.

    The info…

Seems like you will have to attend an audition in USA regardless; the email audition is just a first phase filtering.

  16. #56. DDRmastaa on April 6th, 2009

I guess it is kind of obvious how much email auditions will cut chances to join. I don’t think I’ve heard of any SM entertainers or trainees getting accepted through email auditions.
So they are more like first impression and what they expect from you at the real audition?
Hey Yein Jee, you seem like you know a lot about this. Have you auditioned before?

  17. #57. Yein Jee on April 6th, 2009

I don’t think email auditions will cut the chances too much… the people will still have to attend a real audition after all.

Can’t tell what they look for during an audition, those talent agents probably have an eye for something that we general people might not be able to see.

Nope, never done it before. Some of my friends tried it when they came to South East Asia a few years ago.

As said earlier, I seemed to know a lot about this simply because I read things more thoroughly than most people do. Most of the answers are available on their website.

    Annyong~~
Well, i live in Indonesia, it’s very far far away from Korea, right ??
    Huh.. i know that T.T

    Yein Jee…
Is there still auditioning after 3 years later ??
B’coz i’m going to auditioning (maybe) after i’ve finished my education,,
N it will take time for at least 3 years…

    For my own sake,,
I’ve been learning Hangul for a long time..
    It’s pretty hard !
I just can read and write (a little), for speaking and meaning part i can’t at all….
I know that i can use English, but my English is not that great !
Although i can use chinese, but i think it’s better if we can speak Hangul
    T.T

    For the ability part,,
I can sing, dance, n acting..
But for dancing, i just can copy and paste the movement from a MV or video..
I can’t create my own freestyle..
    WHY ???

Well, i think that’s all i want to say..
    Gamsahamnida~~

  19. #59. Yein Jee on April 9th, 2009

Can’t tell if they are coming to SEA. If their representatives do take a bit of time to read internet stuff they would know how wanted they are in this region, and it would be foolish not to tap in this market.

It doesn’t have to be freestyle or creative… it’s about leaving an impression at the shortest time possible.

  20. #60. Grace on April 11th, 2009

Y can’t they have one in indonesia.. if they do it in malaysia i don’t mind cz i’ll fly over from the UK
they are doing one in malaysia this year right??
does anyone know when?? let me know pretty please… thanks… :):D
