SM Entertainment, one of Korea’s largest talent management agencies, is kicking off its 09′ global audition on February 14th in its home ground, with plans to extend the audition to China, Japan, South East Asia, Canada and USA etc.

SM Entertainment Global Audition 2009

SM is looking for various talents in singing, acting, dancing, modelling etc. It’s said that all Asians are welcome regardless of nationality and age… but I doubt they would want a 40-year-old veteran lol.

[update] USA & Canada audition announced; no news on other places.

Nov 15 – Wilshire Plaza Hotel, Los Angeles
Nov 22 – Toronto Korean Center, Toronto
Nov 22 – Executive Plaza Hotel, Vancouver
Nov 27/28 – Korea Village, New York

Refer to SM Entertainment’s official website for more details. Also check out JYPE audition and Avex audition which are running in Oct/Nov in US and Canada.

Audition preparation for SMe

1. Singer – prepare 1 or 2 songs which you can sing without accompaniment. Please make sure that you are confident in your song selection and that the song fits best to your voice.

2. Dancer – Free Style Dancing, CD to be submitted to the reception desk on the audition date by the applicant. (If you do not bring any CD for dance, random music will be played.)

3. Actor – Impromptu Acting, memorized monologue to be prepared by applicant.

4. Model – Free posing. (5 or more)

5. Producer/Composer (Writer) – Producer/Composer (Writer) Demo CD or written music to be brought by the applicant.

hey guys..i’m from singapore..do y’all think im eligible for this global audition in New york? or just that people residing there are allowed to?

lolz..wish i could get some replies..

  2. #1202. Yein Jee on October 5th, 2009

Shinie… the website’s statement does sound confusing. Personally I think it doesn’t matter where you stay, but to be safe… email SME for confirmation instead: 2009smhelp@smtown.com

    Belle… why the sudden change?

  3. #1203. Belle on October 5th, 2009

To Yeinjee: :( Well, my mom said it would be worth it to go to disney world more :) But at least im going somewhere :)

  4. #1204. Gamen on October 6th, 2009

Yein Jee,i want to ask what they mean by both cover and original songs are allowed?I’m from malaysia and i might go to LA for audition.

  5. #1205. felice on October 6th, 2009

belle: awh. really. you omean you’re going for thanksgiving or something? or are you planning to ditch school?
how do you register online? but what if theres not many ppl that registered online and you’re one of the first to go? wouldnt that be nerve-wrecking?
and… in the website there’s a time of the audition. for example 2-5 pm or something. what if the line is so long and you’re in the back. do you think they’ll close the doors on you or just let ppl until the line is finished or until they’re REALLY tired. or something?

  6. #1206. Yein Jee on October 6th, 2009

Belle… you are not catching the global audition anyway, so your mum has a point here. Where’s the nearest Disney btw? AFAIK there’s no Disney in Canada right?

Gamen… original songs are written by you (or your friends and never been published), cover songs mean singing songs that have been released by other artists, basically all songs that you are listening online or on TV/radios. Obviously most will be doing cover.

Do check with SME to make sure that foreigners can take part in the audition; as said in earlier comment their term is a bit confusing.

Felice… there are pros and cons for registering online obviously, and someone did mention before that s/he purposely didn’t register to get more time to know what’s happening during audition.

I’m the type who wants to get in ASAP, would be much nervy after waiting for hours lol.

Personal opinion, I think they will include everyone that are already there by closing time.

  7. #1207. felice on October 6th, 2009

yein jee: AFAIK? so they wont like make anyone leave without trying, right? or like those who come before closing time but doesnt mean they’ll stop at closing time? and what country are you in? is it in the us or something like that? cuz ur online about the same time that i am

  8. #1208. Yein Jee on October 6th, 2009

I think they will stop the line at closing time; those are already in queue will be auditioned until finished.

The audition is not just a talent hunt, it’s also a public relation event to reach out to the fans. In the past they hand out posters to everyone who’s there (not sure if they are still doing it), so we can have a good guess that they will do the best to accommodate the attendees.

I’m from Malaysia. It’s 10.59am at the time of writing.

  9. #1209. Gamen on October 6th, 2009

Same…I’m from Malaysia too.Yein Jee,are you attending the audition at USA and Canada? For Malaysian will be a tough one.The flight to there takes about 20++ hours.I hope they will held the audition somewhere near Malaysia.

  10. #1210. felice on October 6th, 2009

Gamen: dont they hav it in southeast asia, too?
yein jee: lol. at least if i dont get in i’ll get posters. haha.

  11. #1211. Gamen on October 6th, 2009

felice:They had at south east asia before but not always in Malaysia. From 2007 onwards, there is no news that they will come to Malaysia.

  12. #1212. Yein Jee on October 6th, 2009

Gamen… too old for that, and not interested at the first place :)

They are having weekly auditions in Seoul btw; if you are flying you can consider going to Korea instead of USA.

felice… no harm trying, especially if you are staying nearby.

  13. #1213. chikato on October 6th, 2009

i hope they can also go in Philippines^^

  14. #1214. Gamen on October 6th, 2009

Yein Jee: Yes,you’re right and i am going there for audition on the mid of December.

  15. #1215. Yein Jee on October 6th, 2009

Gamen… in that case please make sure the Korean office is capable of auditioning English speakers (I assume you can’t speak Korean right?)

  16. #1216. Gamen on October 6th, 2009

oh ok.I will ask them through emails then.

  17. #1217. sassy on October 6th, 2009

to yein jee: woah, you know so much.. btw,too old for auditions?? how old are you? if you don’t mind me asking

  18. #1218. Yein Jee on October 6th, 2009

sassy… nah, most are just personal opinions, no big deal. I’m 30 of age, and I guess wisdom grows accordingly over the years lol.

  19. #1219. Belle on October 6th, 2009

To Yeinjee: Lol, the closest and the best Disney World would be in Florida! :)

  20. #1220. felice on October 7th, 2009

yein jee: sorry, but 30? you don’t really sound 30. and you’re so updated, being not from korea. hm.. i guess you just like updating people. well, this blog has helped so much ppl. and do you think they’ll ever get tired of you if you keep coming year after year? the audition, i mean.
