SM Entertainment, one of Korea’s largest talent management agencies, is kicking off its 09′ global audition on February 14th in its home ground, with plans to extend the audition to China, Japan, South East Asia, Canada and USA etc.

SM Entertainment Global Audition 2009

SM is looking for various talents in singing, acting, dancing, modelling etc. It’s said that all Asians are welcome regardless of nationality and age… but I doubt they would want a 40-year-old veteran lol.

[update] USA & Canada audition announced; no news on other places.

Nov 15 – Wilshire Plaza Hotel, Los Angeles
Nov 22 – Toronto Korean Center, Toronto
Nov 22 – Executive Plaza Hotel, Vancouver
Nov 27/28 – Korea Village, New York

Refer to SM Entertainment’s official website for more details. Also check out JYPE audition and Avex audition which are running in Oct/Nov in US and Canada.

Audition preparation for SMe

1. Singer – prepare 1 or 2 songs which you can sing without accompaniment. Please make sure that you are confident in your song selection and that the song fits best to your voice.

2. Dancer – Free Style Dancing, CD to be submitted to the reception desk on the audition date by the applicant. (If you do not bring any CD for dance, random music will be played.)

3. Actor – Impromptu Acting, memorized monologue to be prepared by applicant.

4. Model – Free posing. (5 or more)

5. Producer/Composer (Writer) – Producer/Composer (Writer) Demo CD or written music to be brought by the applicant.

I was wondering if there is a sm headquaters in Honh Kong cause I’m going there.
I am so desparate to be in SM but I don’t think I’m good.

    i hope so…..

  8. #1288. felice on October 15th, 2009

belle: hm… that would be sad if they do it like that. but i think in previous posts, someone said that you go in groups of ppl or something. btw, are you going to toronto then? for the audition?
my friend told me that jyp is not as good as sm or something cuz she said there was this girl that debuted a long time ago but that’s all she has done so far. like jyp hasnt taken care of her yet or something. i wonder why?

  9. #1289. Belle on October 15th, 2009

Do you think that models of mixed origins would be accepted? My father’s white and my mother is Japanese/Korean, and I’m wondering if I would be eligible for the auditions.

  11. #1291. junior on October 15th, 2009

    Question
For my dance audition should I use a Korean song or American

  12. #1292. Yein Jee on October 15th, 2009

Jacaranda… shouldn’t be a problem if you look more like an Asian.

    Email SM for confirmation… 2009smhelp@smtown.com

junior… doesn’t matter. Finding the right song for your choreography is more important than the language.

Do take note that you only have a short time during the audition… you need to make an impact at the very beginning.

  13. #1293. felice on October 16th, 2009

my friend who went there said that you choose your song then choose the best 30 seconds of the song or so to sing in the thing cuz they wont give you that much time. obviously.
belle: awh.. thanks. so will you.
    fighting, everyone!

  14. #1294. jing on October 16th, 2009

is it true that we have to dance in random songs?

  15. #1295. Jaydy on October 16th, 2009

Hey I am back.Sorry guys had my exams and it is finally over but my mum is seriously opposing me from taking part in the auditions..:(

Currently trying to record a cover but hope you guys will keep working and good lucks!

    To rio:
If there was a guy named Jasmine..I think i will be super surprised.

    To sassy:
Hey..sry it’s been a long time since I talked to you guys so…hope I can sneak in sometime soon.:)

    Take cares people!

  16. #1296. sassy on October 16th, 2009

hey guys!! been gone for so long..

    felice:goodluck!!

belle: i’ll see if i can look for the instrumental of honey =)

  17. #1297. Yein Jee on October 16th, 2009

jing… that’s a good point. I think there’s a higher possibility that they might ask you to dance without music at all.

  18. #1298. felice on October 17th, 2009

yeinjee: is that only if you auditioned for dancing?

  19. #1299. junior on October 17th, 2009

    Omg omg…
Ok I have a bit of a problem.

I got a call back from this dance company to tour china and las Vegas for two months all expenses paid and ill get paid 7000

But…it starts oct 28 and the jyp and sm auditions are Nov 11 and 28

I’ve always wanted to work in Korea and I’ve been busting my butt off for these auditons

    I don’t know what to do…

  20. #1300. Yein Jee on October 17th, 2009

felice… if singing you are probably required to sing without background music, like American Idol etc. I assume it’s the same for dancing etc… didn’t thought about that before jing mentioning it.

junior… if it’s me I’ll go for the tour, which seems to be a great opportunity itself.

If you seriously want to work in Korea… then use the $7000 you earn to fly to Seoul for weekly auditions. If you can’t make it to those big firms, your CV with the tour might help you to get a job in smaller entertainment companies in Korea.
