SM Entertainment, one of Korea’s largest talent management agencies, is kicking off its 09′ global audition on February 14th in its home ground, with plans to extend the audition to China, Japan, South East Asia, Canada and USA etc.

SM is looking for various talents in singing, acting, dancing, modelling etc. It’s said that all Asians are welcome regardless of nationality and age… but I doubt they would want a 40-year-old veteran lol.
[update] USA & Canada audition announced; no news on other places.
Nov 15 – Wilshire Plaza Hotel, Los Angeles
Nov 22 – Toronto Korean Center, Toronto
Nov 22 – Executive Plaza Hotel, Vancouver
Nov 27/28 – Korea Village, New York
Refer to SM Entertainment’s official website for more details. Also check out JYPE audition and Avex audition which are running in Oct/Nov in US and Canada.
1. Singer – prepare 1 or 2 songs which you can sing without accompaniment. Please make sure that you are confident in your song selection and that the song fits best to your voice.

i agree with Yein Jee. go for the tour and then use the money to go to Seoul for the weekly auditions. Congratulations btw
Hey Yein Jee , i’m from Malaysia and i was planning to audition online but after reading all the comments .. i dont think they’ll even bother to watch our auditions ? I mean , there’s like millions of people auditioning everyday .. and i’m only 14 years old .. I cant fly to USA , Canada or Seoul :( But i’ll be in Tokyo in December .. do they have the SMTown Audition there in Japan ?
to junior: congratulations!!! i totally agree with yeinjee.. go for it dude.. the auditions will always be there but the tour.. who knows.. goodluck! =)
to junior: congratulations on the acceptance!!! who knows? maybe you can get some connections that would get you even closer to sm. eh, eh?? ;) and is the company korean? cuz u mentioned working in korea but the tour is china and las vegas. wait, you’re in vancouver, right? or something like that?
yeinjee: i just read your post about the jyp and avex starsearch. is the avex thing the company that have connection to sm and supports tohoshinki in japan? and is the avex thing only in hawaii? not that i know the company. i heard about it, well, read, in wikipedia but still… or is that their starting point. and no other dates are announced yet?
Billibilibong… there’s no millions of people auditioning everyday; I doubt there’s more than a hundred in a single day in normal circumstances. Most of these companies do pay serious attentions to auditions, it’s worth to find a gem even if it means browsing through thousands of files to find THE ONE.
Don’t think there’s any SM office in Japan, but there are Japanese companies that are bigger than SM… you might want to think about that.
felice… yupe, it’s the Japanese company for BoA and TVXQ. So far the only audition they have is in Hawaii… no clue about other dates.
Does filipinos are also welcome?
All Asians are welcome. Question is, where are you staying instead?
is belle not responding cuz shes in her trip to toronto?
to anonymous:yes i live in the Philippines, the category that i’m auditioning for is a singer….
Are people who are not asian allowed to audition?
Also does being speaking multiple langauges help? ^.^
to BB: well they prbably would let you audition but wont take much notice of you. they wouldnt want a non asian to sing in an asian country. and speaking multiple asian languages would help a bit, expecially if its like chinese or japanese and of course korean. because they might decide to send you to china or japan to expand their ….company like super junior or DBSK.
come to think of it, wouldnt it be better if i sing an english song because what if i pronounce things wrong and the meaning becomes entirely different. that wouldnt be too good. and if i mess up the lines or forgot something, hm… i wont be able to fix it cuz i dont know what it means. the song, i mean. or like the phrases to be able to fix them. so i was thinking of singing “Ave Maria” by beyonce. is it a WHOAH enough song? cuz it is pretty mellow.
and about the belle comment, i meant disneyland. sorry i just remembered.
Not sure, but I think belle is going to Disney in late Nov. Busy with school perhaps?
I agree with the language; stick with English if you are not fluent with others.
Don’t think Ave Maria is a good song for audition. Beyonce’s version is flat; it’s difficult to bring out the feel like what she did. And unless you have a really great voice, it’s not easy to sing the ‘Ave Maria’ part.
Try something like “You Raise Me Up”, go straight with the chorus… simple yet with enough impact… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_l_A6-7td0
Other than that, train up your character… how to do a smile, how to speak confidently etc. It’s probably as important as the singing itself.
that’s true. hmm… so if you get in and turns out they dont want you, will they pay for your ride back?
yeinjee: thanks for the suggestion.
yeinjee: i was watching the vid. and yeah. that was 32 seconds of WHOAH ness alright. and since im a christian, i have nothing against it. the song i mean. i used to love it.
Don’t worry too much about what happens after you are in… focus on getting in first.
It’s a good song for audition, no doubt. Hope that there’s not too many folks using the song though lol.
Not entirely related, but Korean Tourism Organisation is running online contests with free airline tickets to give away. If you are good with video editing, you might also get a chance to meet some popular Korean stars.
Check it out…

i sent an email audition to usaaudition@smtown.com about a week ago but i’ve received no “automatic reply” like the one ryu posted..
maybe it went into their spam folder?
or they’re too busy?
i dont know :/
did any of you get replies recently?
sigh i’m losing hope ]:
spring water… unfortunately no one here can answer your question for sure. Try using another email address to send your audition after 2-3 months, that’s probably the only suggestion I can give.
