SM Entertainment, one of Korea’s largest talent management agencies, is kicking off its 09′ global audition on February 14th in its home ground, with plans to extend the audition to China, Japan, South East Asia, Canada and USA etc.

SM Entertainment Global Audition 2009

SM is looking for various talents in singing, acting, dancing, modelling etc. It’s said that all Asians are welcome regardless of nationality and age… but I doubt they would want a 40-year-old veteran lol.

[update] USA & Canada audition announced; no news on other places.

Nov 15 – Wilshire Plaza Hotel, Los Angeles
Nov 22 – Toronto Korean Center, Toronto
Nov 22 – Executive Plaza Hotel, Vancouver
Nov 27/28 – Korea Village, New York

Refer to SM Entertainment’s official website for more details. Also check out JYPE audition and Avex audition which are running in Oct/Nov in US and Canada.

Audition preparation for SMe

1. Singer – prepare 1 or 2 songs which you can sing without accompaniment. Please make sure that you are confident in your song selection and that the song fits best to your voice.

2. Dancer – Free Style Dancing, CD to be submitted to the reception desk on the audition date by the applicant. (If you do not bring any CD for dance, random music will be played.)

3. Actor – Impromptu Acting, memorized monologue to be prepared by applicant.

4. Model – Free posing. (5 or more)

5. Producer/Composer (Writer) – Producer/Composer (Writer) Demo CD or written music to be brought by the applicant.

spring water: I too had sent an email audition to usaaudition@smtown.com about a week and a half ago and still no automatic reply but before that i sent one in about 1 month ago and didn’t get a reply from that either so i lost hope for SM e-mail auditions. I did however also sent one to 2009sm@smtown.com(global auditions) and I just got a reply today :D:D. I think you should try JYP Entertainment, because I sent them an e-mail at the same time I sent one to SM and they replied with this(after a week passed):

Thanks for applying to JYP audition.
The applications with all the proper forms will be accepted.
JYPE will only contact the selected cadidates within 2 weeks.
    Sincerely
    JYPE

p.s Check out upcoming the JYP USA Tour audition at http://www.jype.com/audition.html

However I don’t know if they send that to everyone because I had sent JYP one a month ago and didn’t get a reply for that one. (reason I think they only replied to my second e-mail was because my second e-mail was wayyyy better than my first one)

felice: It took me a week before 2009sm@smtown.com sent me an reply, but that e-mail is for their 2009 Global Auditions(in USA), if you e-mail them then you have to say which place you are planing to audition in person at. More info is on their website. But to answer your question, I am not sure if it’s automated, this is how it looks(theres more to this, but it was just telling you how to prepare for the audition):

thanks junior. btw, how long did you send the email before you get a reply?

  7. #1327. Anonymous on October 23rd, 2009

I sent an application to 2009sm@smtown.com about a month, they still haven’t responded to me yet. Now, I’m hesitating on auditioning maybe because I said I was Filipino in my applcation that’s why they didn’t bother replying? I don’t know.

  8. #1328. junior on October 23rd, 2009

  13. #1333. Luc on October 24th, 2009

    i’m from indonesia…

    please held an audition here…

me and the other indonesia’s people will never gonna miss this chance

  14. #1334. Yein Jee on October 24th, 2009

fatin… can’t speak directly for SM, but they probably prefer teenagers over s/he who is 20+. Early 20s should still have a chance though.

Not sure if the Korean office will take in audition for foreigners. I don’t think nationality is an issue, but the people in Korean office might not speak English… that’s the problem.

If you are thinking of going to Korea seriously, wait till 2010… after their international auditions ended. There’s a possibility that they are coming to South East Asia after this US&Canada audition.

Anonymous… according to their site, yeah. Contact them for definite answer.

  15. #1335. Anonymous on October 24th, 2009

Oh.. I hope it’s not just for asian people :D I can sing and dance but i’m american ;/ But anyway, thank you Yein Jee! ^-^

  16. #1336. fatin on October 24th, 2009

    oh..thanks…erm,can i know why u say wait until 2010?why?can u tell me?

  17. #1337. felice on October 24th, 2009

yeinjee: are you going to post the southeast asian audition in the blog? cuz im curious. thanks.

  18. #1338. Yein Jee on October 24th, 2009

felice… when it’s announced, yes. But there’s no news now.

fatin… 1. They are running auditions in US&Canada now, not sure if there’s anyone in Korea office.

    2. As said, there’s a possibility that they will have an audition in South East Asia. I’m not sure where you are from, but it’s probably a better option than flying to Seoul.

The South East Asian audition is not announced, but they have been doing it in at least one country in the region for the past three years… I imagine they will try continuing the ‘tradition’.

  19. #1339. fatin on October 24th, 2009

aha..thank you very much..urm,if u are the sm entertainment’s person, could you take me as a muslim to be your trainee? what do your mind?and i also wear a scarf..you know right..?
im from malaysia…i hope u dont mind to answer my question…thanks you..and sorry if i ask u many..

  20. #1340. Yein Jee on October 24th, 2009

    I’m a Malaysian too.

I’m not sure what the racial or religious tolerance is in Korea; but it could be a problem if you insist on wearing the scarf.

No disrespect, but even in Malaysia there’s not many Malay female pop singers who wear scarf during their performances… so I can imagine it’s even tougher for Koreans to accept that.
