SM Entertainment, one of Korea’s largest talent management agencies, is kicking off its 09′ global audition on February 14th in its home ground, with plans to extend the audition to China, Japan, South East Asia, Canada and USA etc.

SM Entertainment Global Audition 2009

SM is looking for various talents in singing, acting, dancing, modelling etc. It’s said that all Asians are welcome regardless of nationality and age… but I doubt they would want a 40-year-old veteran lol.

[update] USA & Canada audition announced; no news on other places.

Nov 15 – Wilshire Plaza Hotel, Los Angeles
Nov 22 – Toronto Korean Center, Toronto
Nov 22 – Executive Plaza Hotel, Vancouver
Nov 27/28 – Korea Village, New York

Refer to SM Entertainment’s official website for more details. Also check out JYPE audition and Avex audition which are running in Oct/Nov in US and Canada.

Audition preparation for SMe

1. Singer – prepare 1 or 2 songs which you can sing without accompaniment. Please make sure that you are confident in your song selection and that the song fits best to your voice.

2. Dancer – Free Style Dancing, CD to be submitted to the reception desk on the audition date by the applicant. (If you do not bring any CD for dance, random music will be played.)

3. Actor – Impromptu Acting, memorized monologue to be prepared by applicant.

4. Model – Free posing. (5 or more)

5. Producer/Composer (Writer) – Producer/Composer (Writer) Demo CD or written music to be brought by the applicant.

Another quick question…about how long does it take SME to respond with the time/date and info for the audition? Does it take a few days? or is it more instan?

    Thanks, BW

to ben w.: i sent my first one on oct 24 and they replied on nov 4..so that’s about 12 days. i’ve heard other people who got it around 8-12 days later as well.

  3. #1483. felice on November 8th, 2009

junior: you’re going to toronto on the 22nd?! NO WAY!! me too!! omg. then what time is your slot? probably earlier than mine but still. mine’s at 6.

shyunkita: really?! go toronto! lol. how old are you? and are you attending the audition on the 22nd. if so, then i can see you there, tho i dont think i’ll recognize you or anything. but it’ll be so cool. lol. im 14 by the way. and im not preppy. just excited.

ben w: yeah, i got mine in 12 days, too. or it might take longer now that the audition is closer and people are sending like crazy.

    questions:
    1. someone told me that for your training and stuff, sm takes the money from like your paycheck or something. but in the website at the bottom it says the company will pay all training fees. which one is true?
    2. and now that sm had a lawsuit about their “lifetime contract”, will they shorten it to maybe like 5-10 years instead of 13?
    3. for the audition, it says the registeration for the toronto audition will start at 1 and closes at 7. but the auditions are still going untill whoever last registers are finished, yes or no? and how late is it going to end? cuz my mom is kindda overprotective and if it goes until like 10 i dont think she’ll let me go.
    4. lol. i have so many questions. okay. my time slot thing says 6 oclock. but would i still have to wait like until 8 or something to get in or i’ll get in at around 6?

thanks so much. good luck again to all.

  4. #1484. felice on November 8th, 2009

    heh.. it’s me again.
so for my audition, should i come like 3 hours earlier? and do i still wait in like the normal line or will they have 2 lines?
and for whoever knows, will i have to wait standing up or sitting down? thanks. again.

  5. #1485. Ben W. on November 8th, 2009

@ spring water: Thank you again for you quick responses and as always your great help.

@felice: Thank you for your response too! I guess I’ll assume that it takes at least around a week, so I’m guessing…good timing on my part (right before the 15th auditions)

GL to all! and of course, wish you all the best!

I was wondering, after you pass the email auditions and you go to the US to audition in person. Would passing email auditions be included at the first round or not?

And, for the second and third round. Is it the exact same as the first? Is the freestyling still compulsory?

  7. #1487. Julie on November 8th, 2009

What do i put in the application form? I checked sm website and the usa and global audition app. form are slightly different. Do I just do both?

  8. #1488. lucy on November 9th, 2009

hi i have a question if anyone can help
do we have to sign up (application) online if you’re already going in person to the audition?

  9. #1489. junior on November 9th, 2009

    To felice
Sorry to burst your bubble but the Toronto and vancouver auditions are onthe same day hahaha sorry to get you excited

  10. #1490. spring water on November 9th, 2009

to ben w.: no problem [: you’re really polite for saying thank you so many times ha ha ha ;D

    felice’s questions:
    1. all training costs are covered by the company while you train, but obviously, after you debut, not all the profits will go to you, since companies have to make money =.=; but i would say not to worry about that right now..just think about getting through your first audition.
    2. unfortunately i can’t answer that question for sure..but again..don’t worry about that right now ha ha ha
    3. yeah, as long as you register BEFORE 7, you’ll be fine. no one really knows when it’ll end, but from what i’ve read, most wait for at least 2-3 hours.
    4. i think it really depends on how crowded it is. but most likely you’ll have to wait..just don’t think that once you get there, you’ll audition immediately. waiting time is usually really long.
    5. about coming earlier..i have that same question also. but i would think to come at least 1 hour earlier. that way you can get used to the environment and can talk to some past-auditionees.
    6. it’s different for each audition. i’ve seen in some videos where there’s a lounge for people to sit..and others people had to sit on the floor in a hall (so don’t wear an uncomfortable skirt if you’re a girl)

  11. #1491. spring water on November 9th, 2009

to julie: i’ve been reading a lot on details on the rounds of auditions..but the answer is: no one knows for sure. because if someone does know about it..they’re usually already training in korea lol. but if you pass the first round, i’m sure s.m. will let you know about what to prepare for the subsequent rounds..again, like i said to felice, just worry about passing the first round right now.
about the app/audition forms..if you’re GOING to the global auditions, then you send an APPLICATION to 2009sm. if you’re NOT going to auditions at all, then you send an AUDITION to usaaudition.

to lucy: you don’t HAVE to send an application for global auditions, but if you don’t, your waiting time will be longer.

  12. #1492. felice on November 9th, 2009

junior: oh, you’re right. lol. i didnt know. then again, why would you go all the way to toronto? hm.. then what about the 11th? you mentioned it somewhere. and it’s okay to burst my bubble. btw, i just bought the white citrus handsoap from bath and body works. lol. i had no idea why i typed that. cuz we’re talking about bubbles. well, im talking about bubbles. anyway…

spring water: have you been in this web sometime before? cuz you sound so pro. anyway about the thinking of audition first, yeah. yeinjee told me that once, too. haha..
2-3 hours after the closing registeration time?
hahah. dont wear skirts. nice. or like you can wear pants then change or something.
sigh. im probably gonna end up bringing my homework with me. lol.
    thanks for the answers.
and here’s a question for you: are you attending any audition? if so, when and where. and good luck. :]

  13. #1493. EH on November 9th, 2009

just some past esperiences from other people who went to audition in korea..this is for people intending to audition in korea..(i tin nt really a lot of ppl..)and those for global can just hav a rough idea..the girl who auditioned in korea said that the judges will ask u to dance freely to a song and u can choose not to..then they will ask a girl to dance and u will just follow her dance..aft dat u sing ..the judges will cut u off and if u are lik frm china they will ask u to sing a chinese song(same for other countryi tin) ..the girl sang quite a few song…then they will ask u to wait outside until there are 5 ppl..then all 5 will go in to another room and they will ask u to..act cut/act cool/act happy/act sad(0_0…???)..then they will take ur pictures(?)..and aft u end..they will tell u that evrything has been recorded..i tin the judges are pretty demanding but still okay..okay i minimize the summary a lot..and some of the part may seems weird..but..it seems like auditioning in korea has a lot more time..anyway good luck to the people auditioning.=)

  14. #1494. felice on November 9th, 2009

EH: so that means, you have to try out for everthing? cuz now that i think about it, the sm stars are pretty flexible in their talents. sigh. this just *phsewwwwwww* *BOOM* my self esteem. but thanks for the info. but i have a question. What’s “tin”?

    thanks

  15. #1495. EH on November 9th, 2009

felice:it means thinks..i just shortformed it LOL so sorry..err anyway..i tin the talent parts..they will train u aft u become a trainee so dun worry .. u just have to sing well and leave a good impression on the judges..and no u dun hav to try out for evrything ..they give u options in things that u wan to try out for

  16. #1496. annonymous on November 9th, 2009

Can I still send in my e-mail application for the LA Global Auditions?

  17. #1497. SnoopyXD on November 9th, 2009

ahh after readying about the global auditions i wanna go to that one. seems a lot more simple and easy cause they pretty much give u what they want you to do. and they can see everything u can do. compared to weekly where u just show off ur main talent and if u can do anything else.

  18. #1498. SnoopyXD on November 9th, 2009

oh 1 more thing. is there rounds for the weekly auditions too??

  19. #1499. Julie on November 9th, 2009

    @EH
The story your mentioned, was that a weekly audition?

  20. #1500. EH on November 9th, 2009

    @julie yea i tin so
