SM Entertainment, one of Korea’s largest talent management agencies, is kicking off its 09′ global audition on February 14th in its home ground, with plans to extend the audition to China, Japan, South East Asia, Canada and USA etc.

SM Entertainment Global Audition 2009

SM is looking for various talents in singing, acting, dancing, modelling etc. It’s said that all Asians are welcome regardless of nationality and age… but I doubt they would want a 40-year-old veteran lol.

[update] USA & Canada audition announced; no news on other places.

Nov 15 – Wilshire Plaza Hotel, Los Angeles
Nov 22 – Toronto Korean Center, Toronto
Nov 22 – Executive Plaza Hotel, Vancouver
Nov 27/28 – Korea Village, New York

Refer to SM Entertainment’s official website for more details. Also check out JYPE audition and Avex audition which are running in Oct/Nov in US and Canada.

Audition preparation for SMe

1. Singer – prepare 1 or 2 songs which you can sing without accompaniment. Please make sure that you are confident in your song selection and that the song fits best to your voice.

2. Dancer – Free Style Dancing, CD to be submitted to the reception desk on the audition date by the applicant. (If you do not bring any CD for dance, random music will be played.)

3. Actor – Impromptu Acting, memorized monologue to be prepared by applicant.

4. Model – Free posing. (5 or more)

5. Producer/Composer (Writer) – Producer/Composer (Writer) Demo CD or written music to be brought by the applicant.

to everyone: goodluck guys!!!! woot woot!!

  2. #1502. Julie on November 10th, 2009

anyone know how long it is between the first round at second round?
I’m thinking of auditioning at the end of november but I’ve got relatives coming over from overseas for a month in november.

  3. #1503. Hitomi on November 10th, 2009

Julie: Don’t quote me but I think theres only 1 round/audition, you do your stuff and thats it. What EH said is maybe what happens when you get the casting call/call back or whatever.

  4. #1504. spring water on November 10th, 2009

i agree with hitomi. what EH said isn’t what happens in global auditions in the usa & canada. if you’re going to global auditions this year in north america, you only get a veryyyy short amount of time to display your talent. if they like what they see, they’ll ask you to do more (ex. sing another song, model, etc.). some people have even been asked to stay behind and talk to the judges. so you need to leave a really good first impression.

if you really want to know details about global auditions and want to prepare well, i suggest you youtube search “sm auditions,” and there are really helpful videos that answer your questions, and someone even filmed their entire journey through last year’s global auditions. or if you go on soompi forums, there are a lot of threads that you can read through to fully understand the audition process.

to felice: i don’t know as much about auditioning near closing time..but i suggest you don’t take the risk to audition so late. always get there early early early! and yes i’m auditioning in new york this year [:

  5. #1505. Too00FU on November 10th, 2009

umm just wondering can u audtion for more than 1 thing?

  6. #1506. Richard on November 10th, 2009

Does anybodys application fail to send?

  7. #1507. felice on November 10th, 2009

    julie: where are you auditioning?
and for the second round thing, maybe they do that if like they need to be sure again about the people that they choose. if they choose any at all. cuz it is possible that they come empty handed, right? cuz like they’re not likely to pick someone from every audition every year, right? idk. someone correct me on that.
    AND OMG ITS GETTING CLOSER.
and sassy’s back on. are you in australia or something? cuz u and snoopy are like co-working on something, arent you? is it done?

  8. #1508. Hitomi on November 10th, 2009

I see lots of people are getting nervous lol, I wonder, what are you guys more nervous about, Auditioning in front of the judges? Auditioning in front of 10 other random people? Or something else? I’m just nervous about doing it in front of 10 other people, judges don’t scare me :P

  9. #1509. felice on November 10th, 2009

    how bout both?

  10. #1510. Julie on November 10th, 2009

    @spring water, hitomi, felice
I’m doing weekly auditions by email. And then I’m guessing they’ll probably have me audition in person.
Are there rounds for weekly auditions?

  11. #1511. SnoopyXD on November 10th, 2009

haha actually im not really scared of either. maybe cause im going to weekly’s and they only film you. but im probbaly most scared about not getting in and humiliating myself in front of my friends when i go back to school and saying i didnt get in. ugh man im scared and i still have 4 weeks to get ready. while others only get a week or so. omg im scarying myself.
5 days away until LA auditions. anyone going to them??? if you are i wish you the best of luck (and curse you so you dont get in) hahha jks.
nah sassy is still in her country. we working on something over msn and stuff.

HAHA SORRY BUT I HAVE TO SAY THIS.
IT WAS SO WEIRD. LIKE 2 DAYS AGO I HAD A DREAM THAT I WAS IN SM AND I WAS IN A BAND WITH LIKE 7 PEOPLE. IT WAS SO AWESOME. BUT NOW ITS REALLY FREAKY CAUSE USUALLY WHEN I WANT SOMETHING SO BAD AND I DREAM ABOUT IT IT MEANS I USUALLY WONT GET IT. BUT I WANT SM SO BAD. UGHHHHHHHHHHHH LOL sorz had to say it.

  15. #1515. junior on November 11th, 2009

  16. #1516. Julie on November 11th, 2009

    @SnoopyXD
I’m doing weekly auditions too. But I’m wondering what you meant but they only film you?

  17. #1517. Cha Billy on November 11th, 2009

Have the people who actually made it in been korean??
Ive noticed that the people who are famous from auditioning
through sm, have been korean :( I’m hmong and I wanna go for SM
I told myself I would go for Sm Auditions for next year
So I have one year to prepare myself
    I have tons of questions::
When we audition do we have to HAVE TO go to the auditions in LA and NY and ETC ETC, or can we just send in a video??
And after auditions do we just go home or something??
Cuz I have no relatives in NY, LA, Vancouver and Toronto, I have cousins in Fresno and Sacramento, but LA is like 3 Hours away from Fresno and Sacramento……I wanna become a SM pop STAR!!!
Also do we have to HAVE to know how to speak Korean??
Because I don’t know any korean except for Hello and WHY
UGH!!! I want to become a SM pop STAR!!!
Ive heard of SM experiences and they havent been what Ive liked >.>
I heard that the judge was texting while they were singing or not paying attention ETC ETC
I’m nervous about that >.> I wanna become a SM pop STAR!!!
Sometimes I wish I was korean or japanese so this would be much easier but then again, I’m NOT Korean or Japanese >.>

SIGH anywho, me and my brother – in – law are gonna make up our own dance to BoA’s Eien maybe >.> I want to impress the judges, because you have to be REALLY REALLY good, Ive seen auditions where they were good but still didn’t make it to callbacks >.>

  18. #1518. sassy on November 11th, 2009

cha billy:you can just send videos thru mail and you can also go to the auditions in NY,LA and ETC. there have none korean stars who got in. like hankyung from suju, amber from fx. where you from btw?

well apparently if the judges aren’t interested in you they really wouldn’t be listening, would they? that’s why you have to catch their attentions the moment you get in the audition room. one way is to smile =)

junior:oh lucky you! goodluck! let us know what happens in the audition =)

  19. #1519. felice on November 11th, 2009

junior: this may be late but GOOD LUCK!!! wait, for the jyp thing, you’re auditioning in vancouver, right? like their global audit?
cha billy: yeah, i kiindda noticed that, too. like i thought they were just looking for koreans out of korea cuz they’re usually richer or something. but theres henry lau from suju M. that i know of. what nationality is amber? and hankyung? tho im probably going to google that right now but still.
sassy: so what country are you from?

    again: good luck everyone!
whatever happen to cammie, belle, and jaydy? have they been swallowed by earth? or they got picked. who know. hm..
    yeinjee: enjoying your trip?

  20. #1520. SnoopyXD on November 11th, 2009

@ Julie: well apprarently from what ive read. in the weekly auditions there are no judged but they record you and then they send the audition clip to the korean judges.
@ felice: amber and hankyung are chinese. like me lol but ive had more people saying i look japanese and korean more than chinese lol. hope that gives me a boost in getting in.
