SM Entertainment, one of Korea’s largest talent management agencies, is kicking off its 09′ global audition on February 14th in its home ground, with plans to extend the audition to China, Japan, South East Asia, Canada and USA etc.

SM Entertainment Global Audition 2009

SM is looking for various talents in singing, acting, dancing, modelling etc. It’s said that all Asians are welcome regardless of nationality and age… but I doubt they would want a 40-year-old veteran lol.

[update] USA & Canada audition announced; no news on other places.

Nov 15 – Wilshire Plaza Hotel, Los Angeles
Nov 22 – Toronto Korean Center, Toronto
Nov 22 – Executive Plaza Hotel, Vancouver
Nov 27/28 – Korea Village, New York

Refer to SM Entertainment’s official website for more details. Also check out JYPE audition and Avex audition which are running in Oct/Nov in US and Canada.

Audition preparation for SMe

1. Singer – prepare 1 or 2 songs which you can sing without accompaniment. Please make sure that you are confident in your song selection and that the song fits best to your voice.

2. Dancer – Free Style Dancing, CD to be submitted to the reception desk on the audition date by the applicant. (If you do not bring any CD for dance, random music will be played.)

3. Actor – Impromptu Acting, memorized monologue to be prepared by applicant.

4. Model – Free posing. (5 or more)

5. Producer/Composer (Writer) – Producer/Composer (Writer) Demo CD or written music to be brought by the applicant.

hi and good luck everyone! i don’t mean to butt in the discussion as a newbie but i’m so anxious for LA auditions!! (too)
haha. anyway i actually went to weekly auditions but the person recommended me to go to the global one since i live in LA anyways. so i guess i can just tell you my experience?

so yea. basically, like everyone said, you just go into a room and its only you and the person who films your audition, and you get as much time as you need. (the person even let me stretch before i dance because i just walked right in and there wasn’t anyone there when i auditioned. which was… a couple weeks back.) then they film you for as long as you want to perform.
according to her tho, it seems like they take the global auditions a bit more on the priority side because they korean judges get to really see your personality i guess? none the less tho, i notice a “evaluation” bar on the form that has to be filled out by the person filming and i’m sure it would really help if you have a good impression accompanying your great performance and that the person filming would say nice things about you :) OH. she also said that one person actually got picked and debuted through the weekly audition, so don’t be discouraged AT ALL.
meanwhile. i know NOTHING about global auditions and i’m just going to go in and surprise myself. yay the fun!

felice: I am from the US, but I am hmong, my parents are immigrants from Laos, I have no korean in me at all…

Hate to say this but, I’m not going for SM Global Auditions anymore, instead I will be going for YG Entertainment, because SM only concentrates on your looks then you talent, but YG is the opposite, they concentrate on talents and you also have to be at least normal looking…SM also pushes you supper hard, and rumors say that if you just make one mistake, the manager bests you >.> I ain’t down for that, thats why Shinhwa left SM…

I’m going to go for YG Entertainment, it’s alot easier too, because there is no deadline for YG Auditions. I hope to make it :) But the hard part is, I don’t know if I’ll ever see my family ever again if I do get the label…So…Its super hard to decide >.>

I meant *BEATS, not bests >.>

    Um…
I want to apply but im living in Taiwan (not Taiwanese) i’m Korean American and i have no idea how to audition…i need help!!! which one is better Yg, Jyp, or Sm ???

  13. #1533. sea on November 12th, 2009

Ashley:there is no answer to which one is the best..it depends on which one suits u best and what u are aiming for..and u dont really needs to choose out of these 3..there are still more out there ..but yea..these 3 are the best ..bt don choose the the entertainment company just because it is popular or has ur favourite artiste in it..just follows ur heart ..but here are some tips(?)..for yg..it is more of hip hop..rapping and style..normally they dont really care abt ur looks..jyp is more of dancing and maybe appearance ..sm is both talents and appearance..

  14. #1534. iceboxx on November 13th, 2009

    To Smiley^^:

Yes there is no Dead Line for YG entertainment, which means you can audition any time, also yes it is a mail audition, the adress cant be found on some sites >.> I’m not sure which one but just type in “YG Entertainment Audition” and a link will pop up where they explain the YG Entertainment process..If they like your talent they will give you a call or mail you back, and they will pay for everything all you need to do is pack up your bags say your goodbyes and you will arrive in Seoul for lots of hard training, you also don’t have to know korean, just at least know Hello, “Yobusayo” or “Anyonghasayo” (I think thats how you spell it >.>) No I have not tried out yet but Ive been reading around just looking at things if I actually DO make it, LOL thanks for being curious :D

  18. #1538. Cha Billy on November 13th, 2009

UGH I can’t spell I meant “CAN be found on some sites”
Also, they will teach you korean, because the YG producers, managers are pretty fluent in english :D So yes you can converse in english with them

  19. #1539. Cha Billy on November 13th, 2009

the site for the YG entertainment INFO can be found here

    http://bigbangkorean.wordpress.com/2008/05/01/information-about-yg-entertainment-audition/

OH and also, There is a YG entertainment through the web, but thats the HARDER way to do it…Because YG does not have EMAIL as of now so..yeah, just send in like a vid of you singing or something >.>

  20. #1540. Julie on November 13th, 2009

I’m auditioning for weekly auditions by email. Are we allowed to send in more than one song? And can we record our specialty?
Cause in the application form it asks for a our specialty, and I wanna send them a video of it.
