English subbed audio-video of By Myself (or I’m Alone), solo debut by Tiffany from Korean girls group SNSD; it’s a theme song for drama series Princess Ja Myung Go. Nice song, and I think she did pretty well…

I find it interesting that this girl and one other from the group were both raised in California from an Early age and speak fluent English. Jessica, the other girl was in fact born in California. Then her parents sent her off to Korea for training. Tiffany was discovered in some LA talent test. Jessica is the niece of some big Korean music executive. You’d think that some of these U.S. music executives would see the light and start trying to nurture the careers of some of the bilingual Asian/American acts right here in the states and then could also be marketed outside the country as well.

Problem is Asian-American market is quite limited to begin with (in the States); US is the largest and most influential music market in the world, everyone is trying to get into US instead of the other way round… it makes more sense to nurture acts that could make it big in US than in overseas, unless the executives are really familiar with foreign markets.

I think give it time and it will happen. Young Asian population in the states is growing very fast. We’re seeing a new wave of Asian American native born along with hispanic population. Tomorrow’s American generation of adults is going to be a huge mix of Asian, hispanic and white. (Interestingly, the black and whites offspring have slowed some but still present) If I found a good looking young asian/american bilingual girl (with little to no accent) who could sing like a bird and has that “it” quality, I would be trying right now to get in on the ground floor with the first successful American asian pop sensation. It’d be a few years but I’d bet on it and put all my efforts into promoting her. But that’s me. Too many of those people just play it safe until someone with insight and guts finally hits with a new idea, then everyone follows like sheep. By then it’s too late and its not new anymore and they wear it out.

im surprise she sings so well. i thought she is one of those with looks only, she always make mistake in group dance, and always rely on her smile in varities only.

kyon… it’s a general misconception for pop group members (that they can’t sing). Most members in Korean pop groups are highly trained, some for 6-7 years before making their debut… some of them can really sing, while the others should at least be ok.

SNSD members can sing better than WG and KARA!!! Taeyeon and Jessica also can sing very good, i think Taeyeon is one of the best singer in South Korea, you can find her singing solo on Youtube, her voice is AmmmaaaZZiiiing!!!!

Yeah, Taeyeon is a very good singer indeed; SNSD often rely on her for the high notes, which she pulls off pretty well.

I wrote something about Taeyeon’s solo work too…
