Hong Kong celebrity couple Vivian Chow and Joe Nieh tied the knots yesterday (Jan 5) in a private wedding ceremony after two decades into relationship.

The wedding wasn’t all blessed though, with series of preluding events which are dubbed by some Hong Kong netizens as the biggest joke of 2008.

The saga began on December 7th when a tabloid published photos of Joe kissing another woman; followed by a breaking up statement from the couple on Dec 11 before the surprising U-turn on Dec 18 with the wedding announcement.

Some of the netizens reacted furiously for different reasons… some felt that they were being fooled for sympathising Vivian, some felt that Vivian is making a stupid decision, while some felt that Joe doesn’t deserve the second chance etc.

I stand on neutral on the marriage; the twist did seem ridiculous at the first place, but the couple has been in relationship for 20 years… there’s complications and emotions that most of us would not understand.

Besides, it’s their private business after all… best wishes.

I agree, it’s their life and they know better what they are getting into. Let us just stand aside and wish them a happy marriage and life together ahead!

Have my doubts it will last.

#1, they are celebrities with celebrity egos, and very few of those last.
#2 if he kissed another woman before, he’ll cheat again.
#3 Being together 20 years with no commitment of marriage doesn’t mean they are ready for marriage. In fact, sometimes because they no longer feel free to come and go as they please, the married couple both start to get more possesive and eventually break up.

okay, even if this is their own business, i think i still have the right to express my own opinion about it. being celebrities, they have to accept the fact that people will talk about their business.

i have no idea what joe nieh did to get vivian to marry him. but from what i’ve seen and heard about him, i don’t think she should’ve done that. this man has had a very bad history that shows his unloyalty. i’ve watched this interview with various hk celebs and some female stars were saying how joe nieh tried to ask them out and flirt with them on friendster/facebook. the woman that he kissed is probably only one of the many women he cheated with on vivian.

vivian’s either stupid, or she loves this man too much. actually, i think it’s both. i’ve read the breakup statment that she wrote in chinese when it came out. it was like a very long essay, and i admired her style of writing. i thought she sounded very clever and mature in it. never thought she’d change her mind so quickly. but anyway, i still think she’s a clever woman, just not in love.

this relationship seems very fragile. if he cheats again, maybe not as much people will pity vivian because she chose to marry this playboy. but enough said…hopefully, joe nieh would change.
