Korean trailer for 26 Years, a revenge movie about five people who plot to assassinate “the man” responsible for the Gwangju Massacre [wiki] in May 1980, in which hundreds of civilians were killed by the army.
The movie was directed by Jo Geun-hyun, and starred Jin Goo, Han Hye-jin, Bae Soo-bin, Im Seul-ong, Lee Geung-young and Jang Gwang etc.
The story is based on a popular webcomic by Kang Full, about five victims – gangster, sharpshooter, lobbyist, cop and businessman – of the Gwangju Massacre who attempt to assassinate the former President who was responsible for the tragedy, 26 years after the incident (which was when the webcomic was published).
The film was almost halted completely with major investors pulling out in 2008 because of political sensitivity (the massacre was real, and the ex-President is still alive). The production was revived with support from crowd funding and private investment, and it opened last week at the top of box office in Korea. Bravo.
