“The Host” (Gwoemul; 괴물) is a Korean movie which broke the record of highest grossing South Korean film of all time in 2006.

Themed as a monster movie, The Host offers a lot more than horror; in fact it hardly qualified as a horror movie… as it combines comedy, dark humor, suspense, action and just a bit of horror that was enough to scare kindergarten kids.

Chinese basketball star Yi Jianlian (易建联) was selected with the 6th pick in the 2007 NBA draft by Milwaukee Bucks.

The 19-year-old power forward from Guangdong, China, will become the 4th Chinese player in NBA after Wang Zhizhi, Menk Bateer and Houston Rockets star centre Yao Ming.

Yi is 6ft 11in (211cm); he previously played for Guangdong Southern Tigers in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA), and has played with the Chinese national team in the 2004 Olympic Games and 2006 FIBA World Championships.

Yi is surprised with Milwaukee’s decision to pick him, as he has previously expressed his desire to play in a city with a heavy Asian influence. Milwaukee with estimated 27,500 Asian Americans certainly doesn’t fit the bill.

The Chinese international however remains positive with his NBA future. “It’s a surprise to me… I’m not really familiar with the city as well, but I’m happy to be playing with the team and happy to play in the NBA.”

Greg Oden was the 1st overall pick by the Portland Trail Blazers; Kevin Durant was the 2nd pick by Seattle SuperSonics.

Personally, I haven’t watched much of Yi’s play besides some footage; he is quite agile yet powerful with his height, and has a good shooting range. He got potential, that’s for sure.

A young man from central China’s Henan province has asked his barber to cut his hair into the shape of eight Chinese characters – 庆香港回归十周年 – which literally means “Celebrate 10th Anniversary of Hong Kong’s Return” in English.

Bravo to the barber… he showed some amazing skills there.

Netratings have published Japan page views (pv) and user numbers for May 2007, and Yahoo! Japan again comes top with 31.8B pv/month. Yahoo! Japan has retained the top spot for 85 months, since the first Japanese statistics were compiled in April 2000.

Yahoo! Japan’s 31.8B pv/mth figure puts it just ahead of the most viewed site in USA, which is the original Yahoo! at 31.6B pv/mth. [Shin]

I am not sure if Yahoo! Japan is the most viewed site in the world though… don’t forget there are lots of internet users in China as well, just that the Chinese might not have proper stats to show their internet usage.

Kimchi (김치; also known as Gimchi and Kimchee) is a traditional Korean fermented dish made of seasoned vegetables.

The most popular type of kimchi is made with napa cabbage; other varieties include kkakdugi which is a kimchi made with cubed radishes, oh-ee so-bae-gi which is a stuffed cucumber kimchi and kkaennip (깻잎) kimchi with layers of perilla leaves marinated in soy sauce and other spices.

Kimchi has been a Korean cuisine for over 2000 years; it is probably right to say that a Korean meal these days is incomplete without Kimchi. Kimchi is often eaten with rice and other dishes, but over the years Kimchi has developed into various forms of delicacies like Kimchi soup, Kimchi ramen, barbecue Kimchi and Kimchi spring role etc… creativity is the only limit to the reinvention of Kimchi recipe.

An extra bonus for eating Kimchi is its health value; it has been claimed as one of the world healthiest food for its richness in vitamins and healthy bacteria that aids digestion.
