Japanese competitive eater Takeru Kobayashi’s hope of 7 successive titles at the Nathan’s Famous July 4th International Hot Dog Eating Contest is ended after losing to American Joey Chestnut.

Kobayashi took part in the competition despite injuring his jaw last week; the injury didn’t seem to affect his performance though, as he swallowed 63 hot dogs in 12 minutes, his personal best in the competition.

The record however wasn’t enough to stop Chestnut, who gulped 66 hotdogs to claim the 2007 title with a new world record.
