Korean pop star BoA and her agency SM Entertainment, held the Best of Asia, Bring on America press conference on September 10 in Seoul to officially announce her American debut plans.
I like BoA, I think she’s good singer, and she look’s great… but Best of Asia? SM sounds a bit arrogant to proclaim that; since when did BoA became any better than the likes of Rain, Utada Hikaru, Ayumi Hamasaki, Jay Chou and Lee Hom etc?
Set the best argument aside, it would be nice to have an Asian artists making waves in the American pop scene. Unfortunately though, BoA’s debut song Eat You Up is not going to do the job; teaser below…
The song is ok, and JUST ok… the song title is stupid, lyrics are bad, and the preview above is lame. There’s another slightly better teaser, but the song is not good enough regardless.
I love you BoA… but I’m afraid your America debut is going to be a miserable one; your team needs something better than that to make it in the US, or it would be America that eat you up instead.
[Update] BoA’s debut English digital single was released on October 21 in over 30 countries instead of solely America as initially planned. The full music video of Eat You Up was released on October 7.

HAHAHAHA
Lol whoever wrote this is one ignorant kid.
BoA is an acronym for Best of Asia.
And atm , calling her literally the best of asia is not an understatement.
She’s pretty much as big as Rain, and defintely bigger than the rest three you’ve mentioned.
Jay chou ? LAFF
Utadaklj askd wtf? LAFF
Ayumi is pretty known, but only really known in Japan. You can’t expect someone to be called “Best of Asia” when they are only successful in their own country.
No one else comes close to what success BoA had in outside her nationality.
Yes, her debut will probably suck not because her song is weak ( which I think it is) but because she can’t even speak english fluently.
Boa’s not that great…Utada was featured in video games and has excellent voice quality and still isn’t famous…Boa with her pop and her okay dance
moves (c’mon guys, you know you’ve seen people better on YouTube. Only the Asian noobs would say she’s the best…) I wasn’t suprised when her debut failed. I don’t like k-pop. But apparently wondergirls made quite an impact on The charts during their stay… An it’s not about being Asian, since Charice broke that and entered the top top albums with her debut album…
All in all, only the anime nerds are cheering…
ok, so i ive never heard of BoA until recently…… personaly i dont like how her voice sound childish, especially when its autotuned….. but shes a great dancer…..i guess she’ll only be the best in asia…. not the whole world…
Okay, so I agree that BoA’s album wasn’t a success and let’s face it, the US is a hard place to make it in. You’ve got critics everywhere (seriously). Like others stated though, I think it was really the promotion that made the debut a failure. Of course, if you got a horrible promotion, who the heck would even notice you. However, one kick off the pony doesn’t mean you can’t get back on. She still has a chance, but it is going to be a bit harder to rise up from the ground. She needs major promotion, a refreshed vision of herself, stick true to her style, and get out there!!
On a side note ….
Okay, guys let’s not be immature and bash on one artist and compare to another. Both Utada and BoA are great, but to literally degrade BoA’s fans like that is quite immature. That’s right Sherry!! I’m talking to you, because you just dissed over a million fans and I would include Japan, Korea, the US, and many more countries scattered about. Please do not generalize her fans and tell us that we are blind to talent.
America is a hard place to make it in :\ Personally, I think the market is just random, like Bieber’s (random) debut, Gaga’s (kinda random), Spear’s (somewhat suprising) comeback, Black Eyed Peas staying up there with similar beats.
Dancing is cool. And we know that SMent trains their people to dance well (or from what I see haha), but like look at the people making it? How much of them can dance? Don’t get me wrong, I love dance. And I know a lot of others do too from all the mirrors I see.
Her English is improving, but it can’t stop there, you know? Her debut song had a nice beat, but the style…wasn’t there something better..? I mean auto tune and bad grammar? ehh… Don’t blend yourself in boa! Keep going! Miley’s auto tuning, Britney’s autotuning, T-Pain’s auto tuning…just…no.
Well, anyways, welcome back to the Korean market. I guess you can go back and be a queen or whatever they see you as there rather than standing up to your challenges in America…
It was obvious that BOA wasn’t going to succeed because she doesn’t have a large international audience (can tell through her views on youtube.) Whereas I think Big Bang and 2ne1 may be successful because they have a large international audience and many wester audiences buy their albums.
*nods*
I CAN’T WAIT FOR 2NE1′S DEBUT I’M DYING WAITING ALREADY!!!
I am a fan of both groups, and I don’t think that as skimfan said that Big Bang wouldn’t make it.
I just can’t wait for both of them.
I’m just really hoping from 2NE1′s little samples that after their debut they’ll follow it up with a few less lovesongs and such…
