Dear Discovery with YeinJee readers,
This website is undergoing some changes. I am merging all the blogs to one single blog and recategorised the site navigation options. You can read all site contents from the homepage after I finalised the changes.
If you prefer to focus on these discovery articles and not other topics (i.e. Asian pop culture etc.), you can still access these specific contents on the discovery topic page. The new blog has little content at the moment, but I will resume writing in the next 24-48 hours.
The main reason for the change is that the script that I am using on this site has been upgraded, and I now have the option to integrate all the contents while keeping the categorisation for each specific topic. I am not going to bore you with the technical stuff, but I promise that the site is going to get better with improved content sharing and reading experience.
Please update your bookmark (sorry for the inconvenience) accordingly. As for RSS readers and newsletter subscribers, you don’t need to make any changes yet; I will make the changes and you should be updated as usual about fun discovery related contents from the new blog.
The other major change is that I have opened the comment option on the new blog so that I can interact more with the readers, as well as allowing you all to communicate with each other. You can say Hi at my first introductory post here.
Thanks for the support all this while… look forward for more good times ahead with you all.
Regards,
YeinJee.

A 13,680 square kilometre ice shelf has begun to collapse because of rapid climate change in a fast-warming region of Antarctica.

Satellite images of the Wilkins Ice Shelf showed that a huge iceberg, 41 x 2.5 km, about seven times the size of Manhattan, has disintegrated from the ice shelf recently.
The Wilkins began its collapse on Feb 28 (2008); a narrow beam of intact ice, just 6 km wide, was protecting the remaining shelf from further breakup as of March 23.

The picture shows a Zimbabwean carrying pile load of cash to buy something. Seems like a lot of money… but fact is the pile of cash is probably worth less than 100 US dollars.
Zimbabwe is suffering from an inflation crisis. The annual inflation in the African country has rocketed past the 100,000% barrier in Feb 2008, by far the highest in the world (2nd placed Iraq has an estimated inflation of 60%).
Zimbabwe’s currency has tumbled to a record low of 25 million Zimbabwe dollars to one US dollar. 100 US dollars could exchange for nearly 20kg of local currency.
Frankly, it’s hard to imagine how a country would manage to get themselves into the troubled situation. My countrymen would be crying like babies if our annual inflation rates reached 10%… 100,000% inflation? That’s unthinkable.

A horrific soccer injury in English Premier League… Arsenal’s Croation striker Eduardo suffered a broken ankle resulted from a tackle, and would likely to be sidelined for nine months.
While this might not be the worst injury people have ever seen on football field… this photo taken by a sport journalist that reflects the exact moment of the tackle are definitely horrifying. Eduardo’s ankle could be seen completely twisted (and broken) following the impact…

Horrible injury, but great photo. Get well soon Eduardo.
