About Food from YeinJee
My name is YeinJee, and you are reading my food blog, with my cooking and dining experience.
About Cooking
I am not an expert cook, but I love cooking. Sometimes cooking could be more enjoyable then eating itself… the aroma at the moment when a dish was done is something you can’t experience on the dining table.
When I was a kid I often watched my parents doing their cooking; both of them were decent cook. My mum is still a good consultant these days; my dad is already long gone but left behind plenty of invaluable lessons.
I didn’t have much chance to cook when I was young though; my mum didn’t have enough fate with my cooking… and whenever I cooked she always gave too much advice, and often took over the kitchen at the end of the day.
I only started cooking seriously since graduated from university, when I have the luxury to use the kitchen without interference. Some of my initial cooking was horrifying… I can’t remember how many dishes that I had to pour into the dustbin; some of those were simply inedible.
The learning process was fun though, and my cooking skills gradually improved. I am still far from being a good cook these days… but cooking a dish or two is pretty manageable.
I will share some recipes and cooking tips here, but I rarely cook with detailed recipes… lots of the times the cooking is based on hunch and experience instead. Hopefully my tips could still be useful.
About Dining
I love eating (my weight reflects this perfectly) and dining out once in a while. I often read some food blogs and magazines, and followed their recommendations to find some good places and fine restaurants to feast.
I prefer eastern food over western food. I don’t like cheese, I don’t have sweet tooth, I can’t eat spicy food and I can’t drink. I love seafood, I like meat, I like a good soup, and I like restaurants that could bring out the original taste of the food instead of relying on spices and additives.
My priorities for food are freshness > taste & flavour > hygiene > price > environment > food presentation. Service is almost irrelevant; I can bear with bad service if the food is good enough.
I will be honest with the restaurant reviews (good or bad), but do mind that different people will have different taste bud… my favourite food might not be your cup of tea, vice versa.
