Girls’ Generation – Genie Japanese music video

Japanese music video for Genie by Korean pop group Girls’ Generation. Identical choreo and similar concept with the Korean version. Sexy legs, decent video…

I’m not sure if I’m stereotyped with the Korean version, but this sounds kinda odd to be frank. Out of all the Korean girl groups that advanced to Japan recently, only Kara’s Mister sounds naturally like a Japanese song imo.

Genie will be officially released next month. If all those polls and surveys are trustworthy the girls should have a good chance to top the Japanese charts – the Oricon in particular – which would be a first for Korean female pop groups.

[Update] The single ranked #4 on its debut week on Oricon. Well done.

  1. korean_guy… I respect personal opinions, I don’t mind a bit of argument, and I’m fine with a bit of vulgar words. Thing is, the argument has to stop at some point; and it just reached the point that I felt would cause interruption to others. I’m not siding anyone; I would have deleted Mao comment too if he’s the one who continued the bicker at that point. I did pre-warned you guys, but I think I was being over polite.

abc… Japanese female idols have lots of female fans, it’s one the interesting cultural stuff :)

  2. Axex generally doesn’t invest in marketing their artist unless they see it as worthy.
When DBSK started getting more widestream popularity Axex did market them a great deal and it payed off.
It’s just the way they work there.
And Axex wont be handling any SM artist anymore after Max Matsuura openly supported Jaejoong, Yoochun and Junsu’s lawsuit. (the three have new contracts with Avex now)

Japan has a obsession with cute, there is so much interesting material regarding this and how they are expected to act a certain way.
Momusus fans are mostly male and I would say the same goes for akb48 but maybe the image that SNSD, Kara and 4minute has appeals to women more.

  3. Sorry I mean Avex, don’t know why I keep typing it wrong ><
And J.Y.J are currently under Avex label Rhytm Zone.

  4. @Jenny – and I’m glad that avex isn’t handling snsd — if it was up to avex, snsd would have been introduced to japan by handing out cds and singing at supermarkets – like they made dbsk do. When you say avex doesn’t invest in marketing unless it’s worthwhile, to me it says they don’t invest in marketing unless they’re guaranteed to make money from it – nothing wrong with that, but certainly not someone you want to work with if you’re starting out.

  5. @abc hi. i’m just wondering. i know this is an SNSD vid but did dbsk really had to do all that to promote? that’s kindda like wonder girls in us, right? with the cds in the supermarkets.

the japanese music industry to me doesn’t seem to have a range as wide as the korean and sticks to the same style over and over again. but i wonder why japanese idols are able to stay in the industry for so many years and still have many fans.

did 4minute debut in japan before Kara? but then dsp had ss501 before kara to sorta try to weave through japan’s music industry, right? so they sorta have more knowledge?

  6. I love snsd!

  7. i love snds alot love ya girls generation
