K-Town is an American reality show about the lives of some young Asian Americans living in Los Angeles’s Koreatown. Some previews suggested that it’s an Asian version of Jersey Shore, which I have no clue what it is. From the promo stills it’s not difficult to guess that it’s going to be fleshy though…
The show – which has not officially aired yet – has created plenty of debates on Asian American blogosphere. Some see it as a step up of Asian Americans in the US showbiz for being an Asian oriented show, while others think that it’s stereotyping Asian people instead.
Regardless, I never quite understand the appeal of these reality shows. I’ve watched some Paris Hilton and Jessica Simpson, thought it’s going to be fade but seems like it’s getting more popular instead.
The recently talked about one seems to be the Kardashians. Jersey Shore and K-Town probably share similar concept but featuring non-celebs instead. Not sure, haven’t watched enough to suggest further.
Good luck with the show though. I understand the stereotyping concern but it’s probably even worse to have no voice in the pop culture circle to begin with. Hence I wish it a success.
