Dinner a couple of weeks ago at K10 claypot chicken rice restaurant in Bercham, Ipoh. K10 is one of the Malaysia’s most famous restaurants specialises in claypot chicken rice, a simple yet tasty Cantonese delicacy.
The restaurant is just 5 minutes of walking from my old house (where I grew up), but I didn’t realise how famous it was until I came to Kuala Lumpur to pursue my study.
The food preparation is pretty standard… rice cooked in claypot on charcoal stove, topped with marinated chicken, Chinese sausages and salted fish.
The secret lies on the timing of cooking; it needs to be a bit burnt to give it the smoky flavour and to create the crunchy rice chunks that stuck with the pot.
K10 mastered both aspects to live up to their hype; and they have a few popular side dishes to supplement their main show to keep their customers coming over the past few decades. Their food is reasonably cheap too.
Ironically, I can walk to the restaurant with my eyes closed, but I don’t know the exact address of the place. It’s at Lorong Bercham 4, that’s all I can tell lol.
