Well, it’s official… the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has ordered the 19 Internet service providers (ISPs) in the country to block the Malaysia-Today website [more on Thestar]
When will the government learn that oppression is never the best way to win support? With Anwar’s threat to seize control looming near, the BN government should take every right measures to win back the people’s support… but bizarrely they are trying to harm their reputation further instead by committing the obvious fault.
You can still access Malaysia-Today via the mirror site or follow the steps by Crankshaft to bypass the ISP block.

Lim Guan Eng, as the Chief Minister of Penang, should really start moving forward and show what he is capable of as a state leader, not as an opposition leader.
No point wasting too much time digging old fault of the previous government; the Penang folks knew how corrupted the previous government was… they might not know the details, but they were suspecting something huge.
Or else, does DAP think that they won the state in March because Penangties love them that much? People voted for Pakatan because they no longer have fate with BN, and Pakatan was their only option for making a change… and a change is what LGE and his state exco need to do.
What the people want to see is better governance and better quality of living… and digging old fault doesn’t help. What LGE needs to do is to be clean and transparent, improve infrastructures, create job opportunities and reduce cost of living.
The BN central government probably won’t help much to build the state… it won’t be easy for LGE obviously. But that’s what a political leader should do, to overcome difficulties and to find solutions… or else any Ah Beng could have become Chief Minister if it’s an easy job.
As credit due, LGE didn’t perform badly during his tenure for the last few months… but it certainly hasn’t been great yet. Show us what you got Lim Guan Eng, as a true leader, a government leader, and not just an opposition leader. Time to move forward.
Malaysia government has told the concert promoter for Canadian pop star Avril Lavigne to postpone her concert because her performance is not aligned with our independence day celebrations. [via Malaysianinsider and Reuters]
The decision echoed PAS Youth’s objection against the concert. Kamarulzaman Mohamed, a party youth official, said that Lavigne’s show was “considered too sexy for us” and would promote the wrong values just before Merdeka.”
PAS said something, and UMNO government agreed with it… how often did this happened in the past? Seems like the secret meeting a few weeks ago between the two parties is bearing some fruits.
Update - the ministry have changed their mind; the concert will go on.
Hopeless…

Malaysia’s future will be much brighter if the thousands of UiTM students are as enthusiastic in their studies as of their recent demonstrations to protest against Selangor MB Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim for his suggestion to open a 10% quota for non-bumi students.
I couldn’t care much about the 10% quota for non-bumi students… but thanks for showing how deep the Ketuanan Melayu mindset is still rooted even among some younger generations.
Fear not about having others eating your pie UiTM students… most are not interested to enter the institution anyway. The real thing that you should fear is finding jobs when graduated; you know how good (or bad) you are… and you can’t rely on the government forever.
Oooppsss… should have written this article in BM instead; I wonder how many UiTM students can understand this… whatever.
Malaysian shuttler Lee Chong Wei has advanced to the men’s singles final at the Beijing Olympic Games after beating Lee Hyun-il from South Korea. Lee will meet his arch rival, Lin Dan from China in the final.
Congrats on the achievement, and thank you for bringing home a medal… hope that it would be a shiny gold in the end. Good luck and all the best.
Meanwhile, our neighbour Singapore is also in celebration with their first medal in 48 years. Their women’s table tennis team marched into the finals after defeating the Koreans, guaranteeing at least a silver in the bag.
Update - It’s a silver for Lee.
A report on findings of the studies conducted by Malaysia’s first space traveller, Datuk Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor at the International Space Station (ISS) will be presented to the cabinet by end of Autust. The report would be studied by the cabinet first before it is announced to the public. [via Bernama]
Although the second space traveller programme had not yet been decided on, Malaysia would still send Major Dr Faiz Khaleed to undergo training to ensure continuity of Malaysia’s space programme… now, this is what I call a waste of money.
The first Angkasawan programme is dubious, but there are rooms for debates whether the project will benefit our country in future or not. However, what’s the point of sending the second man for training when it’s still uncertain if there is any continuity with the programme?
Stop wasting our money.
