UMNO leaders and members contemplating contesting party posts should put aside the intention and instead devote their energy to prepare for the upcoming general election, said UMNO vice president Muhyiddin Yassin. [Bernama]

Dear Muhyiddin… the election date is not announced yet; shouldn’t UMNO leaders NOT focus at the GE at all and try to improve other nation and social matters instead?

In fact, shouldn’t you, the Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister, be focusing on improving the agriculture sector of Malaysia now? You have been sitting there for years doing nothing.

Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi is happily announcing one mega development project after another… the Iskandar Development Region (IDR), Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER) and other billion Ringgit projects like Trans-Peninsular Oil Pipeline and all the railway projects etc.

It is easy to come out with a plan, but lots of questions remain uncertain… is it feasible to work on all those mega projects at the same time? Are Malaysians capable of funding the projects ourselves? How are we going to attract foreign investments? Who are going to benefit from the projects? What will happen to the projects if another economic crisis landed on Malaysia like in 1997?

Do we need these projects?

Perak government has spent millions if not billions to develop various industrial areas; most of those areas are close to being wasteland now. It is easy to draw planning and providing infrastructure, but what happen if we could not attract people to invest at those areas? And do we really need all these development?

Malaysia recorded 30,285 dengue cases so far this year with 65 deaths, up from 20,258 cases and 49 deaths in the first seven months of 2006. [CNN]

Malaysia has been fighting with dengue all these years, but the dengue cases and death toll is still among the highest in the world. I am not sure what our government has done to cope with this… but their effort is clearly not good enough.

It’s irritating that some government leaders are busy playing political stance and neglecting some fundamental stuff. Pak Lah himself is showing a bad example… going places announcing all those BS development plans that are clearly meant to fish votes by the next election. Helloooo… people are dying here.

The media is to be blamed as well… I have a feeling that they are over-focused on buzz that could boost their sales and not taking social responsibility that they should. Just take a page or two to raise the awareness of Dengue prevention, that would do well to help the case.

As for you, remember to check for stagnant water at your home and environment, use larvicides if needed and be aware of the danger of Dengue.
