PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim is received an ACA notice today compelling him to reveal the source behind the Lingam video or risk going to jail. [Malaysiakini]
ACA’s request is not unreasonable, but I am kinda pissed with the one sided investigation so far. The independent panel is failing miserably in determining the authenticity of the video; while ACA is busy chasing after the whistleblower instead of investigating people alleged in the judiciary scandal.
What would you do, if…?
These lead to a question that has always been mingling in my mind… If I have somehow obtained a file (or video) that could prove that some VIPs are involved in some national scandal, what would I do? What would you do in this situation?
Would you just throw all the stuff in the public or would you go to someone like Anwar or Lim Kit Siang and passed on the responsibility to them? ACA is always asking people to give this proof to them instead of political parties… but frankly I don’t have much fate with ACA these days. I have a feeling that if the proof is true, they might close the case prematurely, or to a worse extent… going after me instead.
It would be logical to just past the buck to people like Anwar and then stayed behind the scene… the source of the Lingam tape was probably thinking the same way.
Now, what would Anwar do… would he risk going to jail or risk the safety of the person that entrust him with the video? As the situation has been greatly publicise, it would be unthinkable if the ACA would do any physical harm to the whistleblower… but then, who can guarantee that the whistleblower would not be harassed mentally, or ordered to keep quiet?
Ex-ISA detainee Abdul Malek Hussin won a rare law suit against the government over his arrest and torture in 1998, and was awarded RM2.5 million in damages. [Malaysiakini]
I am not sure how the judge has made his call; is the compensation meant for the violence against Abdul Malek, or that the arrest itself is deemed unlawful?
I wonder if there will be any further action against those police officers that were involved in the case. They have committed a crime; monetary compensation is not enough to pay for what they did.
Besides, it is the tax payers, people like us that are going to pay the money. The police lost nothing beside their dented reputation, and we have to pay for the crime that they committed. Quite ridiculous ain’t so?
Science, Innovation and Technology Minister Jamaluddin Jarjis is very excited of having our first man in space… so excited that he already have plans to send our back-up candidate, Faiz Khaleed, to become the next Malaysian in space. [AFP]
“Captain doctor Faiz Khaleed will be the primary angkasawan and the next mission, probably in 2008 or 2009, should have him doing more challenging tasks,”
“This could involve him doing a space walk or conducting repairs to the spacecraft.”
Jarjis is acting like a 5-year-old kid with a new toy… Najib surprisingly shows more sense indicating that a review of Muszaphar’s mission would take place before any decision on future space exploration.
One angkasawan is more than enough. If Malaysia want to send someone to space again… build a rocket and send it ourselves… I might feel really proud then.
Malaysia’s first “angkasawan” (space traveller) will be recognised as a cosmonaut by the Russian space authorities, said Science, Technology and Innovations Minister Datuk Seri Jamaludin Jarjis. [Bernama]
“Some countries might question this, but to me, it is not important. What matters is that the candidate was selected and trained by Russia and the country recognises him as a true cosmonaut,” said Science, Technology and Innovations Minister Jamaludin Jarjis.
He was commenting on the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) referring to Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor Sheikh Mustapha, one of two Malaysians eligible to make an expedition to the International Space Station (ISS) on a Russian Soyuz rocket on Oct 10, as “space flight participant” on its website.
It’s funny that Bernama is still translating Angkasawan as space traveller instead of cosmonaut.
Cosmonaut, astronaut, can-naut, roti-naut, whatever… Malaysia will have a man in space pretty soon, that’s the fact. I would prefer to call him a space traveller though, nothing wrong with the name, I don’t see anything defaming with it.
Pop star Beyonce has scrapped her debut concert in Malaysia (Nov 1) amid fears of possible protest by Muslim groups in the country. [Malaysiakini]
Beyonce cited a “scheduling conflict” for her decision to shift the performance to Indonesia; she will now appear in Jakarta on 1st of November instead of Kuala Lumpur. [BBC]
I think most Malaysians will believe that her decision is due to her reluctant to abide by the dress code, where female artists have to cover up from the top of the chest to the knees.
I am surprise though, that she decides to go to Indonesia instead. Perhaps they don’t have an official dress code, but a protest of some sort is almost certain.
