opps, forgot to say this....but i seriously think if a chinese kid has a lorry driver father and housewife mother, and he/she got straight A's, more than me, then i think he/she should be top of the list to get scholarship in the chinese category, and subsequently get scholarship.

WEALTHY kids, malay or chinese, should give way to their poorer friends...

i'm a malay who didnt get a straight As in SPM, just 8 1A's. i grew up in a kampung where people dont see that education is the way forward.when i finish hi-school i couldn't even write english or speak properly - i failed 1119 writing. but i got govt scholarship and studied in the states. i started speaking and writing english well and i published a scientific paper. i graduated one of top in my class, first honours. i'm the best student in my organic chemistry class. now i got offers from top U's around the world to work.when i got back my kampung is still the same.they didn't know that education is important.they are perplexed as to why i decided to go overseas and leave my family when i could just sell coconuts or go out to the sea.these are the malay people from which i came from...

i wouldnt advocate giving scholarships to rich malays. AT ALL. i agree scholarships to be given to poor malays (like me), orang asli that has capacity to learn, and lots to sabah n sarawak bumis. i also support scholarships to indians who come from poor estates. unfortunately im not sure if good chinese students can all get scholarships if we allocate all of the above first because i agree, chinese students are so smart and competitive!!!

we are living together in this country but we are so apart. business is still dominated by one race. govt service one race. even after living together for sOOO many decades we still have limited MIXED MARRIAGE. this is a proof that we live together, but we don't accept each other. we go to different school, we go to same local uni (but i didn't, sorry!), same classrooms but sit separately.

some even cant speak malay properly. dont even mention write a formal malay letter. malays don't even know how to count 1-10 in chinese or indian, even though buy groceries everyday at chinese store. if we buy house we still prefer having neighbours of the same race than of other race.

so?i think all these will continue - the living apart and the fighting of the race. mixed marriage rate is the barometer that we accept each other. sorry to say, but dont you think its true?

Frankly, I doubt JPA scholarship would make great different for people who decided to stay in foreign countries after their studies. There are lots of JPA sponsored students who decide to stay overseas after their graduation as well... it's a matter of having better options in other countries.

Gosh! the goverment should take appropriate action towards this issue so that they will not regret it later on. I myself, a SPM 2007 top student did not get any offer from the government to pursue my studies at tertiary level. I am very frustrated as well as angry and I swear I'll never come back Malaysia once I finish my studies abroad. I'd rather study abroad where the foreign government will just give us place in their universities according to our educational status and not based on our race like in Malaysia.
