The Pakatan Rakyat has just launched a campaign to boycott Utusan Malaysia and Mingguan Malaysia for their unfair reporting and racial sentiment.
It was a bizarre move by Pakatan… for all this while they are fighting for freedom of speech, and now they are, asking people to boycott the papers for their biasness. Such an irony.
I do read Utusan occasionally, and I know how pro-BN and racial biased they could be when reporting certain issues… but that doesn’t mean that they are liars.
Chinese papers are often bias when reporting some racial issues too… Hishammudin’s keris wielding for example was widely criticised in Chinese papers, while the Malay papers were more protective towards the same news.
Sometimes, there is no absolute answer to right or wrong in certain matters… it’s just about sharing different point of views, which is not really a bad thing for better understanding among Malaysians.
Besides, the blogosphere are more biased in favour of Pakatan than the mainstream media for BN… we are the worst when it comes to biasness. So, should BN supporters launch a boycott campaign against the bloggers in return?
So much so for freedom of speech.
No..i dont agree coz it is Pakatan Rakyat’s right to freedom of speech to call for the boycott.
They did not close it down. Everyone, including the Pangkatan Rakyat, has a choice to buy or not to buy a product.

Me:
Er… but they are liars. They said Teresa Kok was the one who instigated the mosques not to broadcast the azan, when in fact both the guy who started the petition to ask them to tone down the lectures after the azan (not the azan) and the mosque itself (Masjd Bandar Kinrara) have said the petition has nothing to do with Teresa.
No paper is objective, they will have a certain stand, it’s how much of the truth they are allowed to publish and how far they will object to or defend their stand about an issue BUT to publish lies and slander repeatedly about Opposition leaders is a whole different thing.
Freedom of speech comes with responsibilities. All irresponsible media should be punished, whether mainstream or alternative. Freedom of speech does not mean you can publish lies and get away with it. For far too long we have put up with this nonsense. It’s time to show Rakyat Power.
Utusan also apologised to Karpal Singh last month for publishing an article which portrayed the DAP national chairperson as anti-Islam.
…. In a small box titled ‘Ralat‘ (correction) on its front-page, the Umno-linked newspaper said: “The report on page two Utusan Malaysia yesterday ‘DAP diingat jangan bakar perasaan Melayu‘ (which stated) that DAP chairperson Karpal Singh rejects Islam as the official religion of the country is wrong.”
“Utusan Malaysia withdraws (the statement) and apologises for the mistake,” it added.
In its report, Utusan Malaysia reported that Karpal had rejected Islam as the country’s official religion when officiating the 15th DAP national congress over the weekend… ”
Malaysians must show they will not put up with the bigotry, racist attitudes and arrogance of BN-owned machinery any longer. Don’t you think so?
excuse me!
“Chinese papers are often bias when reporting some racial issues too… Hishammudin’s keris wielding for example was widely criticised in Chinese papers, while the Malay papers were more protective towards the same news.”
Since when the chinese paper is bias in this issue? The raising of the keris do happen right? and the racist ala malays supremacy do uttered by the delagates? am i right? and it was even live telecast in national TV! for god sake.
Utusan is a liar because it reports something which did not happen!
boycotting this racist newspaper is the way to go. I am compiling what other magazine or media is under this evil Utusan, and we will boycott all of them. please refer to my blog for this comprehensive list
