The patriotic spirit among Malaysian youths is not up to expectation, said Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ismail Sabri on Saturday. He gave the index on patriotism among youths at only 68.2 per cent as many of them “still questioned the social contract when the country achieved independence.” [Bernama]
So, questioning the social contract means that we are not patriotic? Interesting perception Mr Sabri.
50 years ago we didn’t have internet, mobile phones, Viagra, AIDS, Proton, AirAsia etc. Lots of things have changed over the span of 50 years… and lots of things have become irrelevant. Why are we not supposed to question any contracts or rules that were made 50 years ago?
I was not even born yet back then, and I am not sure if we actually do have a 50-year-old social contract. Why shouldn’t I question the legitimacy as well as the relevance of the contract?
If asking for a fair-for-all-Malaysians policy is considered as unpatriotic, just be it… I don’t want to be a second class patriot.
On one hand (waving weapon), they said chineses and indians should go back to their original countries if they don’t kowtow to their demands, on the other hand they said the chineses and indians aren’t patriotic. Worst still…on their “middle part” between their both waving semi-raised hands,…if chineses and indians are all patriotic, they will be called conquerors
wTF. how did i miss this report :(
im 22, yup, just 22. since teen years, i can dare to stand tall and shout to the world how patriot i am. the love for this country exceeds anything else. and i do know many youths who are the same. we love the country.
pity how the same guys whu call the rest ‘un partriot’ just because ours views differ. Questioning social contract makes one not patriot? LOL …sigh
neway wat the helll is a patriotism index?? how the gauge and wieght it..lol
that stupid 51-year-old contract that the chinese and indians were actually unhappy about but were pressured to agree to? f*ck that. it states how discrimination should not be tolerated in article 8 and then bites its own backside by inserting clauses that circumvent everything it says.
why shouldn’t we question it? they managed to end nazism and apartheid laws in africa. what exactly is wrong about reviewing an obviously outdated contract that should not and should never be renewed? it has no place in a society where race and religion should not be the determinant of a person’s future.
so i say, f*ck datuk ahmad ismail and his naming of us as pendatang. he ain’t the first to say it, nor will he be the last. it’s not f*cking funny either, how they’re trying to make us accept his non-apology. what a total baby, the PM and VP had to do it for him. and then the arrogant ahmad ismail says he’s not going to even apologise.
if he were chinese or indian, he would never have gotten away with it. he would have been slaughtered live by the malay community. but since he is one of them, they pretend not to hear. behind, they are all nodding their heads in agreement at his comments.
WHY THE FUCK DO WE STAND FOR IT?!
i’m almost 20yo, btw. not that it matters, but are there people out there around my age who actually care about this shit?
