Malaysians these days are occupied by the petrol hike and all the political sagas that some of us are forgetting how worrying our crime rate is.
The news of a middle-aged woman who died on Friday following a snatch theft attempt in Malacca only managed a small column in the papers. A few years ago this news would have made it into headlines, but nowadays it seems like people are accustomed to it… because the fatal crime is happening way too often.
Murder cases happen almost every week, if not days in Malaysia these days. Almost every one or two months I would learn of a friend being a crime victim of some sort… not gossips, but actual misfortunate events on people I know.
I am pretty sure a few of your friends or relatives (or unluckily yourself) must have been a crime victim in the past few years. There is a joke from JB that if you have never been robbed, you are not from the city; sounds exaggerating, but it’s sadly close to being a fact… not just for JB, but across the nation as well.
Fighting crime should be our country’s top priority, and it still should. Sadly, our political leaders from both BN and Pakatan are more occupied on whether to raise (or reduce) the oil price than to reduce the crime rate.
this is one of the reason we need to change our government, cause with bn as government and umno the racist as leader, don’t dream too much on our police handling crime. u see… there is link from the top to bottom on our government’s organisation, if the head is corrupt so do their underlings…
this remind me of the news that the guy who was robbed when trying to get medical help for her mother who died in the end. its a sad case, and they are many more sad cases, too many that are happening in malaysia now.
badawi and his government cannot run away with responsibilty from this, the crime rate is rising very fast since he becomes prime minister. i hope anwar can change the situation when he takes over, i don’t care if the oil price is drop or not, but i agree with you yeinjee that figthing crime is the most important thing. what’s good is cheap oil and cheap food if we don’t have the lives to enjoy it right?
Oh yeinjee,
In Kelantan, forcing Muslim women not to wear thick make-up, like bright coloured lipstick and high-heeled shoes that gave a tapping sound are more important than curbing crimes.
They said, it is to avoid rape and adultery. It would seem that men in kelantan are not in control of their lust, a mind filled 24/7 with sex. All it needs is just a little trigger like lipstick or high heels and the kelantanese guys probably just gets an orgasm. Anyway that is how these PAS guys seem to think of their men.
