Malaysia-today.net is blocked by Malaysia government???

After a controversial police report by Mat Taib against Raja Petra Kamarudin (RPK), the webmaster of Malaysia Today (MT) on July 23, it seems like the government has up their ante in the battle against MT by blocking the accessibility of the website from Malaysian IPs.

I couldn’t access the website earlier on, and I thought that the website might be overloaded server or something… but I just realized that MT might be blocked by Malaysia ISP instead (Hat tip to Shadowfox and Kai).

I tried accessing MT from an anonymizer, and the site is working just fine. You can access MT using proxies - find one from this link.

The censoring is not 100% proven yet, as some people are not able to access MT with proxy as well [Hafiz]… but it is likely that the ban is on.

I am not a regular reader of MT so I guess I won’t be much affected, but I will be really disappointed if the government decided to impose internet censorship against their critics. It will be another blow to MSC’s Bill of Guarantees for ensuring no Internet censorship, and more importantly… it shows that Malaysia government is not ready to handle criticism.

Besides, it is easy to find another route to access the website; does government really think they can just shut down a website like that? This kind of cheap act will likely to create more retaliation against them instead… not the smartest move.

Update - MT is back online on 11pm… I guess I was a bit paranoia. I am not sure what was happening; I am guessing that RPK was migrating MT to a new server, and the DNS was resolved in a different pace with various ISP.

My apology regardless.

Anyone who has seen this week’s issue of the programme FOREIGN CORRESPONDENT on (the independent Australian Government-owned National Television Networks ABC1 and ABC2) will be not just dismayed, but horrified. How the government of UMNO, boasting as it has for decades about its own so-called “righteousness, freedom and justice for all” policies and actions - the government that was headed by that self-proclaimed “goody-two-shoes and Beacon of Freedom and Democracy for decades in SE ASIA - TUN ABDUL RAZUK can continue to get away with this is beyond this over-60 long-time Asia-watcher’s belief. Where previously we had all ASSUMED (caps my emphasis) that, in spite of a typical Asian politician’s natural aversion to accountability, evidenced right throughout the region since time immemorial by elected “Leaders” in so many so-called democracies, that Malaysia would be insulated against any of this. How wrong we were.

The current government with its witchunt and planted lying “evidence” against Anwar Ibrahim and his supporters; including the courageous owner of this website and senior judicial figures, should be hounded and hunted not only out of office, but hauled before the World Court at The Hgue in Holland. There would be many followers of different religions throughout the world, including 99% of Muslims that want truth to win out. They therefore would agree that matters should come to a head there.

A host of other related questions could; nay indeed should also be referred; the politicisation; nay make that the bastardisation of Malaysia’s court system, reaching up as it does to the highest position in the legal landscape, is ample testament to all of this. For the government-inspired and sponsored acts of murder, imprisonments and fasle legal charges, all backed up by aqusient court “lackeys”, one automatically looks to the regimes of Mugabwe, Hitler and Mussolini for comparisons. And the comparisons of state-sponsored and inspired terrorism do stand comparison.

Why can’t another so-called “freedom, truth and justice-believing government” led by Muslims for Muslims take the lead in all of this. Why leave it to western-educated freedom-loving democrats to take up the cause. Are (nearly) all Muslim national governments globally that corrupt or at least supportive of other Muslim governments that they will continue to turn “a blind eye” to the machinations and perversions of not only natural justice, but acts of genocide. (And what would these same self-serving so-called “democratic governments” say or do if it was say a French, English, American or Australian government even slightly accused of such atrocities. The bloody hypocrites would be up in arms, sabre-rattling in THE UNITED NATIONS and playing the hand of righteousness and religious purity against “the sins and perversions” of the West). Bloody hypocrites all; each and every one of them.
